Hey! I am taking the ACT (for my 2nd time) next fall. And with the whole summer, I hope to get a lot of studying in.

What book do you recommend for the best practice tests?

How would I improve my science score (my lowest- 29)?

Which book explains the tested material most accurately?

Thanks so much!

You can improve your science score by getting a strong background in science -AP Chem, Bio, and physics. Get Barron’s 36 ACT and The Real ACT.

PR: Cracking the ACT is a good book to improve your score with.

I thought Dissecting the ACT was an underrated study book. I thought the tips for science were useful. The math review was also very thorough for such a small book. And it’s legit because a perfect scorer authored it.

Do you look at the questions and skim for the answers with the science section? For each passage, I would recommend reading everything, as well as taking a cursory glance at each of the graphs related to the studies/experiments before even glancing at the questions. I received a 35 in science both times this way.

^It’s even better if you have in-depth scientific knowledge, because then you don’t need to read the intros.

I like reading everything, regardless. Same with the reading section: I read a passage in its entirety, then answered the questions by memory, glancing back when needed.
(36 on reading)

I just don’t trust the skimming method. OCD maybe?
