is anyone trying for ILR?

i’m withdrawing from calculus because i got special permission to continue chem without it for this semester as long as i take it over the summer. thoughts on this? i’m going to finalize it tomorrow, and then my midterm report will be stellar but i will have to explain my situation. i’m going to attach a letter to my report. sound good?

I wish they’d tell us in April…probably too much to expect though considering they start reviewing on March 31st. What was everyone’s 1st semester GPAs?

first semester? as in of college? cause im in my 5th now haha… all my semesters have been a 3.83… until that stupiiddd 4 credit H. Bio…

what possessed a history major to take H.Bio… beats me… :[ :[

Ugh… I’m finally back. Couldn’t post for a week cause of a little mixup.

I’m applying for ILR. I keep meaning to ask… you know know everybody is freaking out waiting for decisions now? “Will I, won’t I…” and in truth, we really DO all want to be at Cornell. There is no pretense here, we’re not applying for prestige (well, most of us, anyway.) Do you think it’ll matter at all, how much sincerity we have put into our applications and how much we worry now, or are we all just stats and numbers in the adcoms’ eyes?

Also, the online system still doesn’t tell me if they’ve received anything. It states the following:
"TRANSFERS : Cornell is currently receiving a very large volume of transfer application materials. We are devoting our efforts toward getting transfer applications processed and sent to selection committees for review. Please note that upon receipt of your application and supporting documents, it can take 2-3 weeks to process your application materials.

At this time, we are unable to respond to phone calls or email inquiries about application materials. We ask that you not send duplicate copies of your application materials. We will notify you in early April if we are missing materials from your application and will provide you with an opportunity to submit those materials.

Please visit this web site again in early April for an update. Thank you for your patience and understanding. "

^ i got the same ********

patience folks, patience.

now is the time to “hurry up and wait”. they will let us know as soon as they can, but don’t count on it till mid-April or later. i’ve started to get some acceptance letters from other schools, and that helps my patience, but i’m waiting on more, including cornell.

sit tight!

regarding gpa, my college gpa is 3.41 now and by the end of this semester it’ll be 3.56. i’ve been in college off and on for 10 years and my first few years were with some awful grades. plus a “c” in spanish in 2004 didn’t help. but all a’s this semester and last semester. :)

ironically unsure, your plan sounds good since your teacher is a nightmare, but i would retake calculus at some point; won’t you need that class for your major?

anyone else apply to CAS for anthropology or am i the only anthro nerd here? :)

i was going to apply to CAS… as an archaeology major… haha so pretty much the same thing. however, on transfer day to ILR, i decided to change my major because ILR and CAS were going to get me to the same place anyway: law school.

and viola, i feel the humanistic aspect of the applicant is summarized in how well you convey emotion and passion through your essay, your actions (ecs and stuff), and for ILR, the interview was a huge part for me… i almost cried talking to the lady… so who knows really… like you, i hope that human quality plays a bigger part in their decision than a spreadsheet of numbers and statistics.

whatttteeevverrr tho

my first semester GPA was a 3.8 and on my midterm report I got all A’s and 1 B(which was a 88!! but the teacher did put that my grade was an 88) and another B in english. I am currently taking 3 science courses with lab, and english writing class, and Cal II. With my semester GPA and my mid terms, if you average them together my GPA is 3.7 :'(… But I will get all A’s by the end of this semester! i am positive !!! :)… I am always at the cornell website lol… I have an addiction -.-…

oh but my major GPA is a 4.0, Im not sure if that counts. And i’m applying for CALS Biological science major, and my second choice was a biology and society.

^ Your stats look good. I got into CALS bio with similar numbers.

Oh thanks so much! that made me feel so much better!! I hope I get in!! hehe. Hope I will be able call myself a Cornellian like u!

ilivefree, thanks for being the only one to respond. i’m taking it over the summer. my new teacher took a look at my midterm report and went “whoa, you have all A’s! i can’t give you an F. C?” and then he scribbled a C. so now i have a C to explain instead of an F, which I guess is better.

lol, at least ur professor was nice enough to put a C!! My biology teacher saw my mid term report and I had all A’s and she was like well you didn’t get an A yet, you still ahve an 88%. ( I was like its only 2%!!)… So i’m going to give you a B. So i asked her to put the 88% next to it also. And she did. -.-… It would of been better if she gave me an A :)! that way I would have all A’s and one B lol. But she was honest about the grade I got I guess. :)

First semester? We go by the quarter system. My GPA stayed the same, though.

ok guys! sent out the last part of my app (midterm report) or at least i gave it to my mom to take to the postoffice because i’m paranoid that the postman will lose it. i literally kissed it good-bye (i give my boyfriend good luck kisses so i figured i’d do the same to my newest baby). good luck!!! now i’m going to go watch movies, play the sims 2, go shopping, veg out and happily get ready for spring break since i can stop worrying haha. oh and eventually do some work :-P. i have 2 essays and 3 or 4 tests next week.

i kissed all my stuff goodbye also lol…i even told the post office these r my babies so deliver them asap!! n w/ care!!

guys, i have another question. in high school i had a pretty poor gpa because i was suffering from a variety of mental disorders (meaning, i’ve been diagnosed by both psychologists and psychiatrists) and was on medication for a while for them. one of my recs comes from someone who knew me, but i think she may have focused on the causes of my problems and may not have stated exactly what they are. i didn’t write it in the additional info because it didn’t occur to me that i should write that, but now that i’ve been thinking about it, it might be really important. i can write something and get my psychiatrist to verify if necessary. should i?

Alright, the waiting is starting to kill me.

Oh yes. It’s ridiculous. And they haven’t even started reviewing our apps yet. It’s too long to be tortured while having your heart and hopes set on acceptance and getting rejection. What choice do we have…
