^^^ I’m first time around

I am a first timer as well so I am not sure. I will call tomorrow and report back.

Thanks everyone. I’m not sure how important the interview is in the application process, but hopefully it holds enough importance to get me in the door.

TFN- I just pm’d you back.

Also, I got a general info. packet from Cornell to transfer students but I’m not sure if that’s what everyone is referring to.

hey everybody!

Valvsu, this LOR that you sent were they extra ones? Is the instructor evaluation thing checked??

East- Congrats!!, I read ur email. Ill reply to it a bit later now Im writing the emory essay
{and also procrastinating lol}. I got the same thing to. Is that the elusive transfer packet?

Ironic- Sorry for last night my internet crashed, and it got fixed today around 4:30pm… :(

I feel like i have the annoying Alice in Wonderland bunny on my shoulders :S Tic Toc Tic Toc Tic Toc

Thanks. Just respond whenever you get the chance. I have no clue if that’s the transfer packet or not.

Also, I’ve never seen Alice in Wonderland.

I would go in the chat room right now, but the computer I’m using doesn’t have the necessary software on firefox and I’m too lazy to take out my laptop since I’m about to leave in 10 minutes.

jemma - no problem. i figured something happened, so no worries. feel free to send me the emory essay if you want when you’re done

east - you’ve never seen alice in wonderland?! we will definitely need to change that if we both get in. it’s one of my favorite movies

Ironic- Ill be online tonight on gmail if anything. I finished the Common App essay, and hopefully Ill finish the Emory one by tonight. I haven’t seen the movie either. I read the book though and I absolutely love it!! :)

East- You are not alone ;)

east89 thanks alot buddy! Very nice response. The tips you gave me are going to help! Now I am just a little bit confused with this whole process. Reading last years forum, Brooklyn girl, an applicant to ILR had a very successful interview with Ian. But ultimately was dinged as he had no input on her decision. So if this is this case, what is the point of the interview if he is not going to have any input on the final decision?

^–He might not have had anything on her application. Meaning, he doesn’t review every app, the other ILR ad coms do. But that is silly when you think about it…if he’s the one who interviewed her, shouldn’t he be one of the ad coms reviewing her app?

Idk, haha. East, Cathy said the same to me after I’d been accepted so I’d say that’s a confidence booster.

Oh and also for east, yes, the general transfer packet is what everyone was referring to. I just didn’t receive one this semester, so I don’t know if they just never sent them to reapps?

Ugh. Dibs November 20th to be here please…we BETTER hear before T-giving.

Ironic- I guess I was absent that day when they showed it in school.

TFN- No problem. I’m happy to help out. As for Brooklyn Girl, I don’t know anything about that case, so I can’t really speak on why that occurred. I seriously doubt that Ian has no authority whatsoever in the admissions process since that would make the interview portion of the application completely pointless. Maybe she misunderstood how the process works and believed that since Ian wasn’t the one who reviewed her app, that his opinion was impertinent in terms of admissions. Maybe it was really the case that even though Ian wasn’t the one who made the decision on her application, he still talked to the people who did reject her and explained his perspective on her from their interview. This seems much more likely to me since I doubt Cornell would send Ian out to do thousands of meaningless interviews every year; he has to hold some sort of weight in the process in order to justify the interview. Also, even though she may have had a good interview, Brooklyn Girl may have not been as well rounded in other statistical areas, or maybe her essays didn’t reflect her goals and interest in ILR as well as her interview did. Who knows?

As for me, Ian never actually explicitly said that he’d be the one who reviews my application but I think he alluded to a couple of things which led me to believe he’ll be the one who checks it. I believe he said something along the lines of “once all of your stuff is in we’ll check everything out and if there’s anything missing or anything that I think you may have left out, I’ll be sure to give you a call.” I think that’s pretty indicative of the fact that he’ll be one of the judges of my application, but again, who knows?

Water- Well that really does make me feel more confident about my chances.

And yea, I guess I did get the transfer packet which everyone is talking about, after all.

i really want to hear before turkey day too because i’ll be going there the week of thanksgiving and if i get in, i’d like to go buy some sweat shirts and stuff and when people ask i can tell them i’ll be joining them soon :)

and east and jemma, we need to have a movie night. alice in wonderland rocks!

I never got said transfer packet. Erm.

From what I can remember of my college application process, yes, the interviews matter, but sometimes other parts of your application can hurt/help you enormously. For example, I remember this Brown admissions interviewer saying how he once interviewed this incredibly self-satisfied and unlikeable girl. He put in everything negative he possibly could. Turns out, she was somewhat justifiably self-satisfied, because she got in anyway. But maybe that’s just Brown.

Ironic- I’m down for that.

Az- Well I guess it varies amongst universities, and even then it probably varies amongst each individual college of a university as well. I believe viola said that he thought the interview wasn’t really that important since Ian said he wouldn’t need to conduct another one even though he’s reapplying. Either way, I’m sure a great interview could certainly do nothing but benefit your chances; however, it’s a question of how much better your chances are made.

O also, how do we know if our applications have been submitted to an admissions committee? The apps can still be submitted to a committee without the midterm report, right?

i know they give out transfer housing ON December 1st.

jemma - yes the LOR are all three extra. they checked off the professor evaluation over a month ago. its been a while since my app was forwarded to the admissions.

i pretty much finished all the other school apps except Amherst. I’ve already paid the fee but dont feel like completing the app since I dont think Ill get in or realistically anybody will get in Amherst for spring from a regular university. and i have to write two essays for that…thats really time consuming

whaaaaaaaaat brandnew when do you apply for housing if housing is being given out on dec 1st??? and i need to know if i’m accepted so i can get a note from my doc explaining i need a certain type of room. ridic.

i know… its crazy, but technically, “new spring transfer students” can START applying for housing as soon as Oct 1st… which is weird? because none of us have any way means to do this by? but it said housing is given out december 1st so i hope they get their stuff settled soon!

but also take into consideration that the number of applicants for spring term is MUCHHH smaller, i believe the average number of ILR’s pool for spring term is around 40 kids?

oh wow. ok well i like that then, because CAS said it’s also around 40 - 50, and humec barely gets any applicants for fall (it was 170 for fall, which is usually super busy), so i can imagine that spring isn’t a lot of people. yay i hope that means good things for us

and word. i hope we get our decisions soon so we can apply for housing ASAP!

yeahz mannn! i want BAKER TOWER!!! so baddddd!

i definitely want a single in a suite in either alice cook or carl becker
