@Ava99 are you kidding me you are smart Im dumb of course you got in easily… You had your head on your shoulders but me im a mess up but thank you anyway im giving up on FAMU on life everyone on here has GPAs of 3.0 and higher and 21+ ACT scores and im not even close…thanks anyway and I know you will be a great FAMU graduate Goodluck Everyone !!! YOU GUYS WILL MAKE IT

Yes journalism is a limited access program.

[School of Journalism & Graphic Communication - Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University 2011](<a href=“Page Not Found”>Page Not Found)

Under journalism majors it says the minimum GPA is a 2.5 and a minimum of 1010/21 SAT/ACT test scores. You should take the SAT/ACT again.
It also says: "Freshmen applicants who do not meet these requirements, but have been accepted into the university, must complete 30-35 semester hours in general education requirement courses, maintain a 2.5 overall GPA, and earn at least a 2.5 GPA in freshman English composition courses to be admitted as a journalism major. "

So obviously, you still have a chance! Don’t give up. :)

@mike92: Why are you so hard on yourself? You still got a little time to bring your gpa up. You have a higher gpa than the requirement thats a good thing. Just work on bringing it higher and bringing your test scores higher. Are you studying for the ACT? What are your extracurricular activities?
Theres a saying: “You are your best critic” and I think your criticizing your self a little too much.

Just focus on what you can do to be better, rather than focusing on the past. Move on and try as much as you can to do and be better than what you were. Thats all you can do at this point…

And remember everything happens for a reason…start looking for plan b, or plan c. BUT you might just get in to FAMU, you never know ;)

FAMU wasn’t my first choice, UF was. But I didn’t get in, and till this day I’m happy that I didn’t, because FAMU gave me more opportunities!

So nothing is wrong with not getting into your first choice, just have a backup plan…

I’ve recently been accepeted to FAMU . but i heard the dorms were horrible. does anyone have advice about dorms?

@Ava, are you in the joint PharmD/MBA program? How is that?

When did you get accepted to FAMU last year? I applied in Oct. and it’s now towards the end of January and I still haven’t been accepted. >.<

@abcd11 Thanks I kinda feel better and @Ava99 Thank you also Im taking my ACT/SAT in February and March so hopefully it goes up And I really want to get in FAMU but if I don’t I guess I will just attend Bethune Cookman because I got accepted there…

@cookay828: The dorm I think you should get is in the Palmetto’s. Preferably Palmetto Phase III. It’s an apartment style dorm, and it has ALOT of room in my opinion.

@abdc11: Yea I’m in the joint pharmacy program and it is ok. blah. I only took 2 business classes which was economics, and right now I’m taking accounting. When it comes to “pharmacy-type” classes like Bio and Chem, I REALLY love it. I’m trying to get a little used to the business classes…but we’ll see
…I think I applied December or late November and got accepted February. But don’t worry it took ALOT of time for them to respond to two of my friends but they still got accepted! FAMU can be late at things like this. Make sure they have all your transcripts etc.

@Mike92: Good Luck!

@ava999: what about truth mcguinn or cropper ? those are the ones my friend told me i should get

Palmetto is an apartment style dorm (its a lil expensive),and its a lot bigger than those other traditional dorms, because its apartment style.
Theres Palmetto North, South, and Phase III.

For orientation I was in cropper, and the bathrooms were not that great. Plus you share it with everyone in that floor. In Palmetto Phase III, I only share my bathroom with 2 other people.

I was denied from Florida A&m University Do you guys think I should resubmit another application I really wanted to go there

If you raise your ACT/SAT score you can call and (kindly) ask them to reconsider. That doesn’t always work though.

What you need to get in:

GPA SAT - I ACT
2.00 1680 25
2.1 1620 24
2.2 1620 24
2.3 1560 23
2.4 1510 22
2.5 1450 21
2.6 1450 21
2.7 1450 21

@abcd thanks and I will try that…But my friend said that I can always reapply

okay another question , how far are the classes from the dorms ?

FAMU doesn’t just let “anyone” in. A classmate of mine had a 4.0 and didn’t get it.Competition is out there. People only get lucky if registration is down that year or you are a minority.

those qualifications are old. now they arent letting anyone in with less than a 2.5

So, I got my OFFICIAL acceptance letter last week.
It was dated January 27, 2011.

Keep in mind that I received my scholarship letter in December, and that was dated Dec. 9.

Talk about slow.

I am trying to switch my major from History to Pre-Pharmacy, but I’m having a really hard time doing that.

BTW: I got accepted to UF. If I receive their Florida Opportunity Scholarship then I probably will not be attending FAMU.

Congrats on your acceptance! I was accepted to UF as well. I never heard of the Florida Opportunity Scholarship. What is it? How much? What are the eligibility requirements? lol. Sorry for so many questions.

I just got accepted to the FAMU school of pharmacy last friday. (week before UF admissions), and I got accepted to the regular school this friday (along with UF). Since Pharmacy is a limited access program, you have to be accepted from both the school of pharmacy and regular admissions. Since you’re trying to change your major, they’ll probably forward your application to the school of pharmacy. Good luck! (:

Hopefully I get scholarships from both UF and FAMU.

Thanks ! & Congrats too.

Florida Opportunity Scholarship:

"
President Machen approved a proposal to provide full grant/scholarship financial aid packages to first-generation-in-college freshmen Florida resident students from families who made less than $40,000 per year. The program, which was endorsed by the UF Board of Trustees, was named the Florida Opportunity Scholars Program (FOS) and was available to first-time-in-college students enrolling summer 2006 or later. The program provides recipients a full grant and scholarship package each year for enrollment in a baccalaureate degree program."

That’s really interesting. Do you know when UF awards and gives our scholarship info? How are we notified?
