My daughter is coming home this Friday and I am so excited! I haven't seen her since the first week of September. I can't wait to hug her. My only fear is that my expectations of how this first vacation will go will far exceed the reality. Dreams of long talks, laughs, watching movies together will probably end up with her hanging out with friends, spending hours on her laptop, and sleeping! No matter what happens, I am thrilled she will be home and am counting the days. What about you guys?

I am!

...but don't be surprised if she gets "bored" and misses her boarding school friends. Oh, yeah, and they'll definitely be online IMing all their friends!

I am definitely loooking forward to having my child home but I am afraid that after having her home for 9 days that I'll have to go through the painful readjusting to having her gone all over again. :(

My (college) D is not coming home. sniff This is her second year, and the second she did not come home for Thanksgiving. It's a cross-country trip and there is a big risk of her winding up stranded in an airport, so it makes sense. But knowing that doesn't ease the pain of her absence!

Oh I am sorry baseball mom! That would be hard, not to have all your children around the table for Thanksgiving. Hopefully, she has a long Christmas vacation, so you can spend some quality time with her.

Borders are happy to be going home, too. :) Though for us, Thanksgiving is basically a reading period before exams.

I tried to edit the thread title to "Who's excited for Thanksgiving" so that the students would also respond. It wouldn't allow me to change it though...

i am SO excited to go home.
most people i know are counting down right now.

Unfortunately, it will be a very short break for goaliegirl. She has a hockey game Sunday afternoon in Boston, so she will not come home until Sunday late night. And then we are driving to Rhode Island for a hockey tourney on Thanksgiving day :( as she has a noon tournament game on Friday. So only 3 days at home. Hardly enough time to get bored.

me! i'm happy and this is the second year, for my second one! it's always exciting, so i guess we all appreciate everything so much more!

Interestingly, I was at Taft yesterday watching Gunnery defeat Westover in a field hockey game. People were making fun of me because I had dd1 graduate from Westover, dd2 graduated from Gunnery and my S now attends Taft. Anyway, my S's best bud who is a boarder, said even though he loves school... He can't wait to get home. That first long stretch away seems to be the roughest for them! One of the great things about having day students is that we get to postpone that agony for 4 years!

I'm exciting about going home for Thanksgiving!!

My day students friends have been making fun of us for months about being borders. Now we get our revenge. I get to be 3000 miles away from my school for nine days; they still have to drive by it on their way to the grocery store. ;)

Goaliedad--can you say "TURKEY SANDWICHES"? :)

LOL I've spent Thanksgiving on the road once before and it is a pain in the tuchus. Yeah, the gas stations are open, but actually a lot of the restaurants are closed. Packing is not a bad thing - not to mention that it saves time and money. We're having our dinner Wednesday night at the in-laws, so perhaps some leftovers might be available.

Wow, prettyckitty, you guys have your exams after Thanksgiving? I guess that makes sense in some way, but we have ours next Mon-Wed (though I have only one and it's on Monday), so I get to leave on Monday for Thanksgiving without the stress of exams.

I'm really excited for Thanksgiving.

Redpride11, is the Thanksgiving break long enough for you to go back to Bangkok? What do most international students at Exeter do for Thanksgiving break?

Well...8 days of good quality time although, as predicted, she spent plenty of time catching up w/friends via facebook and IM.

She was THRILLED to be going back to school - although I miss her terribly again, it's nice to know she loves it so much!

@ lexima; No, it's not. Many international students at Exeter meet their parents somewhere in the US an stay there. One student at Exeter went back to Korea for the break and is now extremely jetlagged.

@creative1: sounds like your daughter loves school and home. I'm glad you got 8 days of quality time.
@Redpride11: thanks, I figured the break was too short for an int'l trip back home. I hope you had a nice time.
