Who's filling out the FAFSA at the stroke of midnight Jan 1 2012?

well what is the difference? why wait till june anyways, that sounds like one is pushing it close.

i bet one of the pluses from doing the app early is…

HOUSING

perhaps?

The June 2013 date is basically for Federal Aid. Since aid years follow the school year pattern, they start in September and go to June. You can apply late in Spring semester/quarter for the current school year and, if you qualify, receive money that reimburses you for the previous semester/quarters that you paid out of pocket for. This is all dependent on how much aid is left to disperse.

So let’s say you dont apply for the cal grant but you apply for fafsa etc. what does b&g do at that point?

cal grant any requirement?

The requirements for Cal Grant are to first submit the FAFSA online. Then you have to send in the GPA verification form to the California Student Aid Commission. This you can do by asking your CCC to upload it electronically.

So if the cost is around 32k a year at a UC, including room and board, is there an estimation calculator that we can use to see how much of a help FAFSA will be expected? Should I expect the same amount of FAFSA dollars that I received at community college?

I also am keeping my options open for a CSU…not too happy about it but they are just a lot cheaper. Will the amount of FAFSA money change depending on what school I attend?

I would do mine early, but my mom said she can’t do anything about when her stupid forms come in the mail. They come in late january and she needs them to file her taxes. so yeah I have to wait for that crap.

Ok so gpa is required? That’s it? Or does it have to be within a certain range?

@Uchappytrain. Hey, you can use your mom can use the previous year for tax forms. So, if you are filing FAFSA in Jan 2012, use your 2010 tax form. The 2010 tax form allows FAFSA to estimate/predict the 2011 tax form. Besure to update the 2011 taxes once they arrive.

For Cal Grant, do I send them my CC GPA or my UC-Transferable GPA?! Help me out for this please.

cool thanks lawlking!! Just to make sure you’re saying that I use the 2010 information and then once the new tax forms arrive change it? do I have to indicate anywhere on the fasfa that I’m doing this?

@uchappytrain You will be able to update your FAFSA to change your estimated 2011 income to the correct and accurate income once your mom gets her tax forms.

Anyone know if we still have to send our CC GPAs if we have a Cal Grant on reserve?

@Ryan2136 I have no idea. The UC will probably give you more UC grants but that’s wayyy too much to cover fees. Cal Grant A awards $12,192, which is pretty much the tuition at UCs.

@ayymeer do I have to indicate that it’s estimated before I change it?

@uchappytrain No you’ll just have to go back to your FAFSA, click Make Corrections, and change it.

ok thanks(:

if you make corrections does it change the date you submit your fasfa?
like if I finished mine jan 1 then made changes in febuary would my fasfa be considered submitted in febuary or january?

about 2 days.

(i have no family in or around the city i live so the 31st is blahhh, besides its wise to safe inside tomorrow night in ‘Hugtown’…right ayymeer?)

=( i submitted mine for 2011-2012 yesterday i was so excited to i thought i got it out of the way. =o. how do i do the calgrant part of fafsa.

j, haha, the FAFSA computer unlocks it 1/1/12…
