Who's filling out the FAFSA at the stroke of midnight Jan 1 2012?

No need to rush the FAFSA application. take your time everyone. As long as it’s submitted before March, there should be no reason you should get less cash than someone who submitted it tomorrow.

I personally will probably submit it around mid January. I feel turning it on the 1st day is just as risky as turning it in the last day.

I’m doing mine tonight, proudly.

Website is still down and it’s 11:05pm EST hmmm…

guessing it will be up @ 9PM PST 12AM EST

I feel guilty for drinking some beer tonight  I hope I don’t mess up something while drunk.

I thought it goes up around 2pm for the whole country so that everyone has the same chance to start. I figured I’d be sober then. Are you saying it goes up in 15 minutes?

Soo it’s past midnight EST and it’s still down… kinda strange

Fafsa is up and running

yes it is  here we go, new year, no journey, new life…

Finished it  We’re supposed to choose the shools we applied to right?

renew or start a new one?

^ I just renew it. No point in doing it all over again and it saves a load of time.

I have a question regarding the part that asks "How many people in your parents’ household will be college students between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013?..Include: Yourself, even if you will attend college less than half-time in 2012-2013. " I live at home with my parents along with my younger sister who is still in her first year of CC, but like many other UC transfers, I’ll be moving out if and when I transfer Fall '12. It says “EVEN if you will attend college less than half-time”, meaning include if I’ll be attending more than half-time. Does this mean I put down 2 and include myself, even though I won’t technically be a part of the household anymore?

Man, I swear some of these FAFSA questions can be so confusing and nonspecific…

It’s pretty self explaining. Will you be moving out on July 1, 2012? If not, put 2 cause you and your sibling live in the same household. Dont overthink it.

I’m lazy :(

jason, you are still a part of your household even when you are away at college as long as you meet the FAFSA definition of dependent student (by answering “no” to the six questions). Siblings who move out and still meet the definition of dependent student are likewise still members of the household.

Ferrari4XD, there is no need to submit the FAFSA immediately.

To all: It would be far better to be sure you have accurate information and get answers to your questions rather than submit inaccurate information. The UC awards the same aid to all on-time applicants (those who submit the FAFSA and CalGrant GPA on or before March 2nd). Your aid will depend on your income and assets per FAFSA, not the date and time you submit the FAFSA.

For those who have submitted using estimates and 2010 tax information: Please remember to update your FAFSA and make corrections as soon as your taxes and your parents’ taxes are filed for 2011.

Everyone should double-check to be sure they selected the 2012-2013 FAFSA. Every year there are applicants who discover they filed the wrong form. The CalGrant deadline of March 2nd is inflexible, even if there was an honest mistake.

Good luck!

@alamemom thank you! That clears things up for me.

Doesn’t matter when you fill out FAFSA. Besides, even after you submit you can go back and make changes as needed

Is the BOG Fee Waiver considered federal aid?

BOG = Board of Governor = State of CA. I don’t think it’s federal.
