Who's going to Clemson 2006?

To those who recently got merit $$$:

Other than Wdlan, What were your stats? (BTW Wdlan: Great Stats!!!)

Are you in state or OOS?

My son is a junior and I'd like to have some insight as to what to expect next year.

BTW: Congrats! Clemson is a great school and it's beautiful...

Also, did any of you take the ACT also??? If so, what were those scores.

We are OOS, so S (who is a junior) will need tuition waiver plus some merit $$ for him to be able to go.

Thanks jlauer! lovesummer- do you mind posting your S's stats?

He's just a junior & has only taken the SAT once -- 2150. He wasn't happy with his score because when he wrote his essay (which is done first). He thought that he had written an awesome essay but, at the last minute, he realized that he had gone a bit "off topic" so that "bothered" him while taking the rest of the test and he made some "dumb mistakes". (He ended up with a 10 on that essay even tho it was "off topic" a bit.) He's taking the SAT again in April. He's also a likely National Merit -- he'll find out what the PSAT cut off is in September and then will try to proceed to NMF. His GPA is all A's so it's 4.0 unweighted and 4.6 weighted. (His school doesn't give much extra for honors/AP.)

by the way, we know that some people do get 11's & 12's on essays but are they rare?

We visited Clemson on Feb 20 and loved it.

Does anyone know when out of state accepted students find out about additional merit money? The acceptance letter alluded to it.

Bethel, You should hear any day now. We got our letter today. Several others from the postings above heard today, yesterday and the day before. I would say if you don't get a letter by Mon or Tue to call Clemson and ask.

S's stats:
SAT - 710(v), 790(m), 710(w)
lots of ap courses
a couple of SAT II's - all in 700 range
various EC's including on Board of a national charity organization
top 5% of a large senior class

Anyone out of state hear yet? My niece from Atlanta is still waiting to hear on financials.

My S got his financial package today - aside from receiving the in-state tuition rate, he got an additional $2,500/year. Was accepted into Calhoun honors college.

Stats: 760 math, 680 reading, 640 writing, 7 AP's, valedictorian.

My daughter is going - we sent our deposits in yesterday. I think she feels really good about her decision, Clemson is overall the best "fit" for her.

OOS tuition waiver 5197.00 each semester
Trustee Scholarship 1250.00 each semester
Barnes and Noble 250.00 each semester
Total 13,394 a year. Still have to pay tuition at instate and room and board minus the 1500.

also Target all around winner, Best Buy finalist and a few others.

v 760 Math 720 8 APs 94.0 average Top 7% of class. Eagle Scout, Peer leader, School leadership team, Math tutor at title 1 hispanic middle school and work 15 hours a week as a small engine mechanic. Over 1200 hrs community service.

As a jr did a self financed trip to New Zealand and Austraila last summer and this summer going to eastern block and then to stonehenge for summer soltice.

HS has people going to U of chicago, Cornel, Yale, Stanford, etc 5 seniors got 800 on math portion of SAT. So I did not get into honors.

Gettig into honors was the key for me. I appealed but no go so GaTech 4me since it's free. My sister graduates from clemson in may Summa cume laude and will be heading to UGA for grad school. she loved clemson. She was a ZTA. its a nice school you can have a life and an education at the same time but its not a liberal arts school. Very few undeclared majors unlike uga or other liberal arts colleges. She felt that was the only downside.

Good luck

Stevie:

I can't believe that they didn't offer honors to you. Did they say why?

no honors if not top 3% of hs class

steviesteve:

Is that 3% rule "cut and dried"? What if you attend a small private school where the top 10% alll have the same straight A's???

I called admissions a couple of times to see if my app had been referrered to honors and they said no because u r not top 3%.

Wrote to honors and sent my fall transcript and never heard a word.
