Who's going to UC Riverside???

Yeah but a sample size of one student would not produce good results... The trick would be to keep calling back and talk to a range of them.

Sorry for the random comment, I'm studying for a Stats exam tomorrow, and for some reason Kfc4u reminded me of the problems I'm working on right now.

It's the only other UC school (Berk) with an undergrad business program, and they're paying for 85% of my tuition. So unless USC welcomes me with tuition checks, then I'm UCR bound. I will be proud to go there. Do any other UCR bound students know a website to meet the other UCR bound?

Wait... So basically if anybody said they were happy their, you'd just assume they're making it up?

I'm going to assume that everybody going to Yale hates it and are thinking up ways to kill themselves because it is so terrible. Now if you call and ask a student there, or somebody on this site says they're happy, it's because they have a scholarship and are being told to tell you something nice about the school... It's the same logic you're using when you assume anything good people have to say about UCR is because they have a scholarship and are being made to say something nice.

If a UCR student was SO unhappy, he/she would've transferred to a community college and then transfer back into anywhere else, maybe even a Cal State. But I don't see a mass exodus going on at UCR.

If I called up UCI honors program to talk to their students, and they told me that it is good, has its advantages, and that they are enjoying UCI, should I assume that they are lying or are only saying so because they are under scholarship and are paid to say so?

i have to say, stayoutofriverside's hatread for UC riverside tops my own dispise of another particular UC. which, my friends consider pretty over the top already. can't we just agree to disagree on the UCR subject?

UCR = dump

Hey, don't blame Stay out of Riverside for trying to prevent students from making what he feels is the wrong college choice in many cases. You don't have to take his word for it...read the opinions of MANY people on CollegeConfidential. You'll find that Stay out of Riverside's remarks aren't all that dissimilar.

It's a terrible area -- desert-y, gets the worst of the smog, heats up like crazy during the summer and is muggy and otherwise gross during the rest of the seasons... and it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere

Sure, it's the dump school for all Non-riverside UC rejects, and the city is pure junk, but there's an upside in living in such a neighborhood. People who can't fit in at any other UC and like to deal with junkies will be satisfied

wrote: riverside is out in the middle of nowhere but the immediate area around the campus is not so bad. there's just nothing to do there, and a lot of the students tend to go home on the weekend which sort of kills the social side of the school. it really is perceived as the last choice school for kids interested in uc's. i know many that have chosen to go to a JC over attending UCR. it might sound like i'm bashing the school, but i've lived in so cal almost my entire life and that's the honest perception around here.

wrote: But the repuatation of UCR is WAY below any other UC, and you should really consider UCI, UCSD, or UCLA (of course of u get accepted, go to UCLA). My friend got 2 D's in high school and got a 2.33 in Senior year, but still made it to UCR. Riverside is totally desperate for good students, and just about offer everyone a scholarship. And yes, it is the very few good students that put UCR on the map. The MAJORITY of the students there were forced to go because no better UC accepted them. In SoCal, most of the students at UCI were forced to attend because they were rejected to UCLA. Likewise, UC Riverside's students were rejected to UC Irvine. If Berkeley and LA are tier 1, and SD were tier 2, then all the other UC's xcept for Riverside would be tier 3. Riverside would be in a class of its own.
Joemama wrote: UCR suffers mostly because it is in hot, smoggy Riverside, probably the worst location of all the UCs, which tend to be in beautiful locations close to or directly on the coast.

wrote: UCR does get all the pollution and crap from LA. It's not aestically appealing, and that further degrades the quality of the students.
Every other UC is located in a very nice area. Especially SC and SD. And that's one reason they are growing faster than the other UC's.
And also, most of the students at UCR smoke, making it even more clear that the school isnt good

Beware of Riverside

I've got a hunch that stayoutofriverside and BewareofRiverside are the same person...

This thread has just broken down into a flame war, so I'm going to back out of it now, it has become pointless.

lol, my quote is cool :)

I don't think it's the same person, it's probably just someone mimicking his name.

There is a possibility that I will be attending UCR entering in the term Fall of 2005.

Right now my choices lie under: UCD, UCSC, and UCR

It's simple, I'm just going to pay a visit to all 3 campuses and see which campus I feel most comfortable in, although academics are still a priority; I'm leaning on UCD unless the environemnt totally doesn't suit me I'd probably choose UCR.

You are one funny man stayoutofriverside...

Why is everyone making such stereotypes about UC Riverside and who said it filled with " weed smokers and crackheads" I bet more people do it at UCLA and UC Berkley also. Every college has people that do drugs. So don't start talking **** if you can't back up the information.

is UCR the dumpster school of the UC system yes or no?

UCR is on the lower end of the spectrum when compared to other UCs like UCB, UCLA, UCSD. Will you get a good education there? Certainly. If you are getting a scholarship, then I would certainly go. Undergrad degrees have lost their value. If you are grad. school bound, saving money during your undergrad years is a smart move. The terminal degree is what most employers look at. UCR undergrad to Harvard graduate school...it's possible.
