Who's heard back?

They don’t have them…do not worry you’re safe!

well shouldnt they have them by now if my counselor was supposed to send transcripts by the 1st and i have a receipt from college board that i sent my sat scores on november 18…?

^Michigan State doesn’t have EA. I got my decision near the end of November and I had applied a month before that and I’m an international.

So, I think it’s a combination of how early you applied, your location, and your stats/app that determines when you hear back.

cammac…CALL. It just takes a while for them to process!

Accepted

30 ACT
3.5 Gpa
6 AP credits

If I attend, I am enrolling in the Lyman Briggs residential college. Anyone Else?

Same! and congrats

fe2011 when does admissions office reopen? i sent an email a couple days ago asking about it and they havent sent anything back so im planning on following up w phone call on monday if they’re open again…

Hey cammac, it’s better to call because an email the take so long to answer

just called…theyre closed until tmrw soooo guess ill call back tomorrow then lol

lol, so did i so i can get my app status!! Its been two months on the dot since everything has been received, I really wanna go there

i feel like a complete idiot. theyve had my test scores and transcripts, but on my app, i put my last name where my first name goes and my first name where my last name goes. so. obviously they didnt piece the 2 sets of information together. hahahaha i assured the incredibly nice lady on the phone that im really an intelligent person, i promise…so i guess 8-12 weeks from today ill have an answer?

yes  and that’s silly! see it’s been two months and a day since everything was in :/

good news! status check system now has all my info together in one bundle! WOO!

Wohoo now just have to wait for our decisions

wow. hows 2 days for a wait period.

NOOO WAY…LUCKY AND CONGRATS  and you !

man its been a more than a month, I really wanna know!

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted.

However, I am very concern about the wide variation on those who have been accepted. My daughter received a letter just before xmas deferring her until after her 7th semester grades.

She has a 3.3 and ACT score of 25. She has been in Marching Band for 4 years and many, many, other EC activities. I am an MSU graduate so she is the child of an Alumni.

She attends a very highly rated public high school. She has had at least 4 AP courses and many, many honor classes. Her 3.3 is much more accuarate than 3.8, 3.9 at other schools. And yet, I notice that some people with those type of GPA’s and 21-23 ACT scores have been accepted.

Does anyone here know of any rationale why this happens? Also, what is the procedure to question the decision of the an admissions officer? Does anyone else see this as a problem? It seems that different admissions officers admit students with different criteria than others. I think this should be brought to the alumni association and possible the Michigan State Board of Regents. Admissions criteria should be same for all applicants.

^I definitely would not do something that drastic. You don’t want to jeopardize your daughter’s chance at admission by appealing, etc. right now. For all we know, she will be accepted right after her 7th semester grades come out. If at that point she is deferred or rejected then you should find the process for appealing a decision.

However, I do agree with you. There seems to be a large range in acceptances. MichMom’s son (I think) has a 36 and some others, self included, have 2300+, and stellar GPAs leading to their acceptances while some others have lower GPAs and ACTs. Then there are the odd deferrals (compared to those admitted). I understand your frustration, but I think she will be admitted in the end.

Does anyone know when the International major scholarship notifications are sent out? (It’s the 11K/yr. one)

Also, how many people get the email for the colored student scholarships (Mobroy’s or something like that)?

^^
When did she apply? Alumni means practically nothing in the admissions process.

I know someone my year (I am a 2nd year) who was denied with a 32 ACT and a 3.2ish GPA. It happens. No one knows for sure what the adcom is looking for- and chances reduce greatly the later you apply.

I would not attempt to take this anywhere. Honestly, adcoms can more or less accept or deny anyone they want. Unless they are doing something blatantly racist or sexist, there isn’t much that can be done.

Also, a 3.3 GPA is in their bottom 25% of admitted freshmen. Even if it should be higher, it is what it is. A 25 is right in the middle. If admissions are getting harder, then the 25 might be closer to the bottom of the middle 50%. Do you know her class rank? Sometimes that is a better indication of her performance in school than GPA.

I think this is a little strange. D had everything in on 10-30-10. A corrected transcript from her freshman year was posted on 11/29.

Excellent recommendations, outstanding essay (she’s a wonderful writer), good EC’s.
Applied to Lyman Briggs.

Both parents are alumni - although I understand that’s not very important for admission.
We haven’t heard anything yet! Any insight?
