My resume is obviously much larger than this, I just gave a rough outline. I was just wondering what my chances of admissions are. I absolutely loved MSU and the atmosphere.

You are in(assuming you are a junior, and not just thinking about applying now). With a 28 you would be in the academic scholars program, and could appeal for the Honors College, and would be in the Honors College with a 30.

Oh, thank you, lol. I am a junior and I haven't looked much into the honors college. I have been studying for the ACT, so I should get close to a 30. Thank you for your input.

FYI, honors college appeals don't always work...hell, i got a 33 on my ACT, 3.6 gpa uw/4.06 w, ranked 33/586, and still didn't get in with my appeal.

Christianh, I think you're in great shape for MSU and perhaps the Honors College. If you don't go honors, there are a bunch of academic scholarships for OOS students to bring tuition more on par w/ in-state kids.

puppylover - Wow, that sucks. I got in with a 34 ACT, 3.67 UW(no weighting at all at my school) and 43/430. And my friend with a 29 ACT and 15/430 got in too.

after the way i was treated with that...and my ****ty finaid [aka, "here's $20k in loans. good luck." mind you, my EFC was only $6427...], i really don't want to go there anymore, knowing how they've treated me. but it's pretty much my only viable option.

Puppylover, I can't excuse heavy-handed behavior by the admissions office. Remember, MSU is a state school which favors scholarships to state residents who are taxpayers that support the school. I hope you don't let this rob you of going to this great university which, otherwise, you seem to like.

i'm in state though. and my parents are taxpayers that support the school. so...they have no excuse.

yes, i'm going there. no, i'm not happy about it. if it was feasible, i'd rather to to western, who seems to care more about me as a student and less about me as just a number, and has communicated that to me by calling me various times, and offering me more scholarship money. however, WMU doesn't have my major.

I have to say I'm surprised and, yes, disappointed in your MSU experience puppylover. MSU has a reputation as having one of the friendliest and accommodating administrations, including on the college and program level, as any large, major research university. The school prides itself on this. Now I'm not saying, sometimes, they don’t come off as being stingy w/ the scholarship cash, even to in-staters like yourself. Even though the school has around a $1.6 billion endowment, its still a state school fighting with a stingier state budget in an obviously struggling state, financially... But I find it hard to believe, overall, that MSU only cares about you just as 'a number' as you say. I almost always hear just the opposite from prospective students and their parents. Like I said, I hope you can overcome your disappointment and anger to have a great time at a great school. And while Western Mich Univ is a nice school, it simply can’t compare with MSU at practically any level, esp academically and diversity-wise (students and faculty from all over the world of every racial, religious and ethnic persuasion).

i'm disappointed too. and while i'm excited to go to college, and i'm sure i'll have fun, i just wish i was going somewhere i felt really wanted me to go to their school. every time i try to communicate with MSU, via phone or email, financial aid office, honors college office, etc...they just don't seem to care. it's frustrating, but maybe i've just had a really bad experience. either way, it sucks.

no, I had that experience too... MSU is a great place, but to make it cheap for Instate students, I believe they had to sacrifice a lot of quality.
