who's hungry?

okay so i was looking at the meal plans at UCSC and i'm thinking i'll probably get the 5 day meal plan and just pay for food on the weekend. Is anyone else thinking about doing that? Also im a vegetarian and I was wondering if there were good options other there for that.
Thanks guys! :]

I’d recommend going 7 day meal plan. My tour guide said its much better, and you’ll be starving on weekends if you dont, plus you probably too lazy to cook every weekend? :O. You’re not paying that much more for 7 day meal plan. I believe it was around $300 more?

Depends on where you live. The dining hall hours tend to switch around each year. For instance, last year the Crown/Merrill (8/Oakes too I think) dining hall was open every day until midnight. This year, it’s the 9/10 dining hall and 8/Oakes that are open late.

I’m not a vegetarian, but there are definitely plenty of good options. Food is always labeled if it’s vegetarian or vegan.

If money is tight, then going on the 5 meal plan is probably better. However, if you can afford it, I would HIGHLY recommend taking the 7 day meal plan. I’ve had friends last year who tried to live off the 5 day meal plan to save a few dollars and they were suffering on the weekends. It seems easy enough to make food for yourself, but dorms are really limited in this nature and your diet will begin to consist of microwavable foods. It’s really useful during midterms and finals week too, when you are really hungry and don’t have time to cook enough food.

As for the vegetarian options, UCSC actually offers a lot of non-meat foods. The main entr

Anybody have any pictures of what the food looks like?

oh good! i was worried about the vegetarian options but its sounds like they got it covered! And I’m contemplating the 5 day vs. 7 day. I mean I think I could afford both but I’d like to save money if possible. I guess I’ll have to contemplate it some more, i mean starving on the weekends doesn’t sound good. haha

I suggest you get the 7 day plan - you can’t study/party well if you aren’t well-nourished first! You can always save money on textbooks by going to websites like chegg.com, where you rent textbooks for as long as you need. I’d rather skimp on the non-food than the food…

You could try a 5 day and if you find yourself not getting enough to eat on weekends, upgrade it to a 7 day. You can upgrade a meal plan, but you can’t downgrade one.

I recommend the 7 day plan but if you want u can try the 5 day meal plan first and then upgrade the following quarter if u feel u can’t handle it

There are plenty of vegetarian options at UCSC there is almost at least one main entree that is vegetarian.
