For schools that require a "why us" essay, is it a no-no to write about its location?

I went to a Columbia info session, and they stressed not to write "I want to go to Columbia because it's an Ivy League in NYC". <--- but, I'm guessing they mean not to make it the main point of your reason.
I want to write how I have fallen in love with a particular city (not nyc), but, of course, that's not the sole reason why I'm applying to that school. So, is that okay?

The only problem I see is that you are stating an obvious reason. A lot of the applicants will respond to the answer by using the city/location aspect. If you want to stand out and be remembered by the admission officers, be totally creative in your reasoning.

There is no reason why you can't answer it with talking about the particular city, however. Just don't be cliche. If you feel this is the most honest answer you can give, don't avoid going around it because its a "no-no".

I think its okay to mention it, but briefly. I know that I love Brown's new curriculum but I know alot of people talk about that. So I mentioned it but briefly. Then I went on to talk about more unique reasons. Good Luck! :)
