Why am I admitted for summer, but not fall? If I accept it is that binding?

I applied for fall '08 at ucf, but was offered admittance for summer '08 otherwise i'm deferred. What does that mean? Why am I admitted for summer, but not fall?

Also, if I accept the summer '08 online is that binding? I only have 30 days to decided. If I click on 'accept' what does that really mean?

My understanding is that because there are less applicants during the summer, it's a little less competitive. Obviously, the university wants students there because more students=$$. Because Florida requires all public university students (in state at least) to attend at least one summer session, this is actually a good way for you to a) get into a university you want, b) get that summer requirement out of the way early, and c) become adjusted to campus during a more relaxed session.

Devon,

Your application/stats etc., probably are in the lower range of the UCF accepted applicants, for whatever reason. If UCF is where you want to go, accept, and go this summer. As far as being binding, if you pay the $200 and then don't attend, you won't get your money back, but again, my understanding is that you can't be prohibited from attending elsewhere. IMO, this would be the best way to keep your options open if you are waiting to hear from other schools.

If you only want to go to UCF if you can wait until fall, then you can take your chances with the deferral. BUT, with all the talk of budget cuts and reducing the size of next year's freshman classes (statewide) that is NOT an option I would recommend. I'd take the bird in the hand, and then, if something better comes along, go for it.

during a tour at ucf, fsu, and uf each gude said the same thing. they wished they had started in summer! while some students are offered summer for reasons stated ir is my understanding that many others are choosing the summer option. congrats on your acceptance!

FYI - it is apparently a requirement at Florida schools (at least UCF) to attend for a certain number of credits for 2 summers (it's online, but we didn't realize it was a requirement) There is an opportunity to waive for some credits

Devonrake - just to make sure you understand - you are accepted to UCF for the Fall as long as you start in the Summer. All this means is that you will be starting earlier than you had originally planned. Congratulations!

Blueskymom is right. Everyone I talked to at UCF while I was there for Open House says they wish they had started in summer. Think of it as an opportunity to get to know people and be familiar with campus before the fall rush comes in.
