I'm actuallys starting to think about what to do this summer ALREADY. I usually decide a week before summer vacation (one notable year I decided two days before camp that I was going... which is why I didn't get my own bed until the second night of camp. Them's the breaks).
So, my friend just asked me if I wanted to work with her as a counselor at a camp for special needs kids. I'm considering it, though I really hate camp life. I was also thinking about taking lifeguarding and doing that, annnnndddd... I was considering an internship.
So since this is the site where you connect everything in your life to college apps, I ask you now:
A) How does it look to work in day camps every summer? (That's what I've done since going into seventh grade.) Does a special needs camp outweigh an internship? (Though if I do an internship I might also do a week-long program at a special-needs camp also.) Is it really bad NEVER to do anything academic in the summer (though I will be working on my Intel STS project then)?
B) Anyone know of any biology/medicine-related (research, preferably) internships in the Manhattan/NYC area? I know of one but I think it's very competitive. What kinds of stuff could I do? Any ideas? Especially paid :) ?
No, this will NOT be how I base my decision. My life is not a college app. But I figured as long as I have so many things I'm agonizing about, what's one more? I'm genuinely curious.
