Why apply to a combined BS/MD program?

I’m a rising senior and I’ve been looking into 8-year BS/MD programs. The problem is, should I even apply if I’m not 100% sure I want to become a doctor?
I want to double major in Biology and Economics to bring together health care and businesses in communities, but I’m not sure if I want to go to med school, become a doctor, get experience, then incorporate the business side of health care OR go directly from undergrad school to the workplace. I know I sound kinda unsure of the future, which is very true, but I know I want to join the Peace Corps sometime.
I know this is a decision I ultimately have to make, but I’d really like to hear what you would do if you were in my position!
Thank you!

Those bs/md programs are as difficult to get in as Ivies. If you have the stats, you can try, but you do have to commit medicine as your career. When in doubt, do some thing else.

I would go to a 4 year college, major in whatever I thought was most interesting while doing my pre-med pre-reqs, join the Peace Corp and THEN decide what my next steps were - business, medicine, or something else entirely.

You don’t sound like an 8 year BS/MD candidate: Those are generally people who can’t envision themselves as anything except doctors.

Thanks for the advice!
