The vast majority of high-schoolers are not nearly concerned enough with the college application process to go to a site like CC. Most of them won't apply to selective schools, and most won't freak out about their "chances."

THEREFORE, the vast majority of high schoolers are not present on CC.

INSTEAD, you find the minority: those who care, those who want to go to HYPS and consequently worry about the entire process.

If you look on the college-specific forums on CC it's not quite so intimidating. I mean, not the Harvard forum or Princeton or those sort of places, but if you look at the discussion on the boards for less hyper-selective schools, you'll see lots of students who are smart and did a good job in high school and are ambitious and excited about college, but maybe they have like 3.4s and 1850s. And a lot of those schools they're looking at are GREAT places where they'll have a fantastic experience. :)

Well I wouldn't feel bad. You should know most folks on here lie. I also wouldn't consider good grades the definition of being smart. There are many who are incredibly smart but don't get good grades for numerous reasons.

It's not even that... it's that this is such a small percentage of kids on the world who really want to go to an HYPS-type school. And just about all of those kids try SOOO hard to get straight As, be in every single club, do 250+ hours of community service, and get perfect scores.

Don't feel bad... grades don't mean everything and they never will. It's not always about how you do in college, it's about what you get out of it.

Sometimes I'm so shocked about just how good these people can get that I get confused by those troll-chance-me-threads, because compared to the others, they actually seem vaguely possible.

I mean, every other day, someone completely perfect asks to be chanced.

Sigh I know, it makes me wonder why I should bother applying to college, period. XD

But look up! Sure some of the CCers are smart, but really, I think it's all just hard work.

I'll stick with the cliche here and say that life isn't all about smartness, you won't get really far with that alone. I'm pretty sure you're "better" than 99% of the people here in many other areas.

Oh and, I'm not one of those "intelligent" people on here, take comfort in knowing that. (I come here for the lulz on HSL 20 min. a day pretty much).
