Hey! I’ve finished my supplement but I am starting to get a bit apprehensive. My intended major is biophysics, a cross road between physics and biology. I think brown is a perfect school for me bc of the open curriculum not restricting me to either field. However, a lot of the essay examples online show that people often cite a love for history and science, or psychology and math. They have completely different interests where as mines are similar. Also, could it be argued that my intention to explore biology and physics in an open curriculum is already encapsulated in the “biophysics” major. If true, then I don’t believe it’s a strong argument for the open curriculum.
Add a little about the opportunities to explore areas that you have not even considered yet. Look at their course catalog and see what is interesting that you do not have access to in high school.
Build on your interest in this cross-pollination of two sciences. Maybe there are some ethics humanities courses that will allow you to further consider your role and responsibilities as a scientist.
Are there classes that you are passionate about that you don’t get a chance to pursue now? When they ask “Why X College,” they want to gain insights about you and why you’re a good fit for their college and vice versa. What are your passion and curiosity areas and how might Brown enable you to do that better than any other college? What do they offer? What else would make you a better biophysicists? It can be potentially data/CS skewed and Brown offers a myriad of biostats, applied math courses for you to pursue and the intro to CS class is an amazing, safe S/NC (pass/fail) option for you to get exposure to without worries about grades. You’d learn for the sake of learning, etc.
