Why Davis?

When i applied to schools I had no idea what I could get into so I pretty much “blanket applied” from easy schools to extreme reaches. From where I’ve gotten in, I’m now trying to decide between UCSB and UC Davis (UCSC and Cal Poly SLO are also in the cards) but I don’t want an extreme party environment like SB.

From all of you who know a lot more about davis than i do (you don’t have to know a lot to know more  - im pretty ignorant) Why are you choosing davis?

For me - I’m looking for a place that isn’t obsessed with drugs and alcohol and partying. I would like the general atmosphere to be students who, overall, are really there to learn. I love music and it’s always been a very big part of my life - I play guitar, drums, piano, and have been singing form a very young age. I love the city and especially being in a location where there are a lot of different resturaunts, things to do, etc. Does davis sound like a match for me? I hear it’s very laid back and I am really looking for that.

I also hate hot weather and i hear it gets REALLY hot at davis - But only in the summer? Is it nice during school? What’s your opinion of the campus?

Thank you all so much! I’m sure your opinions will be useful to the others in this forum who have the same dilemma I do.

UCD is a better match for you. There is partying, but it is not all the time. There are lots of varied things to do in Davis and yes it is a very laid back and friendly place. It does get very hot in Davis in the summer. You might experience some of that heat for the first 3 to 4 weeks of school. After that you will find fall, winter and spring to be mild and mostly pleasant weather. I don't know much about the music scene there, but I'm sure others who do will comment. The campus is really nice. It is very clean and there are lots of trees. The student athletic facility is amazing. There is lots of construction going on right now. Davis is a very outdoor focused community with lots of bikes, runners, sports teams etc.
