I’m seriously considering applying to Brown next year. From what I hear(and honestly, I don’t know much about the university), it’s the most fun out of all of the other ivies. I also like the idea of having the freedom of picking all of your classes. Since there is no undergrad business school here, I’ll most likely be majoring in Economics. But I’d like to know why you chose Brown out of the other Ivy League colleges, especially HYP and Columbia.

Your question assumes someone only applied to Brown, got in and is going there.

[Brown admits 2,649 for Class for 2017 | Brown University News and Events](Brown admits 2,649 for Class for 2017 | News from Brown)

It is hard to expect this when the admit rate is 9.2% and 29k people are applying.

Happens only with ED students.

Yes, for students looking for the most fun, Brown would be a good choice. It is also very likely that the Economics professors there will enjoy teaching students who would actually rather be undergrad “business” majors. This will be fun for the professors.

Keesh17, I’d just like to say that you didn’t even bother to answer the question. I don’t appreciate your sarcasm, and I’m starting to get sick and tired of all of the bitter people here on CC. I simply wanted to know why you(and everyone else) chose Brown over the other ivies. Clearly those who got into Brown had a chance at getting into the other Ivies, so why pick Brown? The comment about the Econ professor isn’t needed either. CC is supposed to be a site where kids can get advice about the college admission process. I didn’t know that this turned into a place where 50+ year old grown adults prey on high school students, waiting for their chance to verbally ridicule them.

search around OP. Pretty sure every one of the alumni/current students on here has answered this at some point

"Clearly those who got into Brown had a chance at getting into the other Ivies, so why pick Brown? "

Not the case these days. Each school is competitive and very few get into multiple Ivies.

" and I’m starting to get sick and tired of all of the bitter people here on CC"

You made all of 5 posts so far. Wait till you get to 500 before you make such arbitrary statements.

“Not the case these days. Each school is competitive and very few get into multiple Ivies.”

I am not referring to cross admits. I am simply asking the people who applied and got admitted why they chose Brown. Why didn’t they apply to Penn instead? Why not Dartmouth? No one has answered the question so far.

And thank you iwannabe_Brown for mentioning the search tool. The search tool seems to be the only way of getting an answer nowadays.

lol at the kid getting way too angry about an online message board.

I chose Brown because I liked the social scene and the general atmosphere and the open curriculum. Brown has a unique vibe that is pretty hard to describe, but can generally be described as accepting, easy going, and free. People play in to “the whole brown thing” and I think that ends up being a good thing.

I love calling out people for being heteronormative or playing into the gender binary because that is what you learn at Brown. It is great.

Brown is on my list of schools because of its flexible curriculum. I like the idea of not only being able to, but being encouraged to combine disciplines and create my own course of study. I think this would help me discover my true interests and give me a better sense of what kind of career I want to pursue.

Because most of them DID apply to Penn, or Dartmouth, or HYP.

There are as many reasons why people decide on Brown as there are students. Spend 2 minutes searching this forum and you’ll read a dozen reasons. The curriculum. Programs like PLME and the joint RISD/Brown degree. The location in a small city on the East coast. The ice cream in the cafeteria.
