I am applying through Questbridge so being matched would mean I would have HAVEc to attend.
I plan on going the economics/political science rout and hopefully get into business school so I am skeptical about Brown since its not very kind to people following my rout.
My dilemma is that I find Browns ideals extremely appealing, especially the open curriculum and the fact that students run pretty much everything.

My question is this:
Will Browns economics/political science department ready me?
Will I meet people interested in my field?
Knowing people who go to Brown seem to be those interested in arts and literature, will I find people who I can connect with as I would at a school like Yale?

I promise you any top school will “ready you”. There will always be people smarter than you and amazing professors to learn from. Also, there are people at Brown just like any other college who are interested in all fields. You’ll connect with people where ever you go. Question is, which school did you feel was right for you and gave you that " i know this my college" feeling after you went there. The academics are all strong in yale, brown, any of these schools.

You will meet plenty of people at Brown who are all into econ and polisci! I know one student there who is a voracious reader, but reads only nonfiction polisci type stuff, unless it’s assigned reading, and lots who are into managing their own stocks etc. (even if not having much money to do so). But warning: you will also meet people who are going to challenge you to expand your horizons! (and the curriculum is designed to allow you to do just that). So if you just want to live in a little pre-business type bubble, maybe it is not the school for you. (Penn?)

??? Where did you get the idea that Brown “is not very kind” to economics/poli sci majors? They are two of the largest departments at Brown. Plenty of Brown students go to consulting firms and then onto business school (you do know that you can’t go direct to business school from undergrad, right?)

I also don’t know where you get the idea that Brown is made up of art and literature majors? They are a minority on campus. More students major in STEM, economics, IR, poli sci.

^I suppose that the business/consulting types are a minority, in that investment banking is not discussed by students starting at orientation like it is at Harvard Of course, every Harvard kid is an ‘entrepreneur’ now, so even that has changed a bit.

Doesn’t Q’s College Match allow you to apply early to up to 8 colleges (ranking them in order of preference?) And, for RD, they encourage you to apply to multiple schools.
