Why did everyone hate high school?

I miss it sometimes, that little high school bubble.

I hated high school because they didn't like me. I had an insecurity problem in elementary school, and we all know little girls, they like to be mean.

Those girls followed me to high school and still were mean, started rumors... I'm just glad to be getting out of this town.

It was really tiring to spend eight years with people I wasn't especially fond of (I was at that school since fifth grade-the horror! :p). That, however, is just the tip of the iceberg... And wouldn't you know it, I now sometimes feel pangs of sadness because I "sorta" miss the place-I guess I didn't hate high school; it's more or less that it just didn't turn out the way I hoped/expected it would. Overall, it wasn't all that bad.

I didn't hate it, but I realized how much it paled in comparison to college =P

Cliques, mean people, the need to wear the exact same trendy clothes as everyone else, counselors who really didn't give a rats *** about anyone who was on the margin or worse, busy busy busy work that didn't teach a dang thing, boredom due to busy work. I learned more at the coffee shop talking about existentialism and Sartre/Camus/vintage Miss Manners books than I ever did in high school and it wasn't because I never went to class (I got A's on the tests and papers I turned in, when I turned them in).

But, I do have some fond memories: finding the secret tunnels under the school, sharing a locker with 5 other people because it was centrally located, my senior-year boyfriend who saved my freshman butt when some rocker chicks wanted to beat me up, the terrific jazz band, participating in talent shows and freaking the entire school body out, going to Vancouver and Victoria BC on an orchestra exchange trip, getting out of there.

It's almost always the social aspect which causes people to have hateful memories of high school.

for me there wereytimes and there were awesome times, just like the rest of life. i was never stuck in a "bubble" with the same people for 10 years simply because our high school had over 5,000 kids so you could easily find new people.

Busy work; too many hours doing nothing; unmotivated students; poor environment; stupid people; more like a daycare than an actual educational institution; lack of ECs at school and lack of desire from students to join organizations (so founding a club was mostly useless); was more mature than most of my peers; personal interests were too divergent from the norm; etc.

Well let's see.. high school consists of the following:
1. Waking up at 6 am
2. going out in the cold to catch a smelly bus full of loud annoying kids
3. arriving and taking classes which are usually unrelated to things you are interested in, full of repetitive busy work
4. dealing with ******bags and morons who are generally at the top of the social ladder. With afterschool sports, in particular.
5. Coming home and dealing with nagging parents and bothersome siblings.
6. Doing homework for those same boring classes.
7. Going to bed, dreading the pain of waking up in the morning.

That's why high school sucks. Of course, there are many good parts of high school, (weekend football/basketball games, extracurriculars, hanging out with friends, cool teachers (occasionally)). It's something we all have to do to get on with the rest of our lives.

I didn't hate it, just got tired of it. That and the fact that the teachers would -force- learning methods on you instead of letting you figure out one that worked for you.

I didn't 'hate' high school per se. There were a lot of aspects that I really didn't like, but I'm still more than proud to call my alma matter home.
Now: 10th grade.
Also known as the bane of my existence. (Yes, a bit melodramatic, but that's pretty much what it was).
9th, 11th, and 12th were at the school I just graduated from. 10th grade comes and that infamous hurricane happens. I'm in this school in a different state with people I didn't know.
People either pitied me or laughed at the fact that I was from a hurricane ravaged area.
Not so nice. I went through the entire year friendless and pretty much hating life. I was stressed to the max over living arrangements and the like. That is why I will look back upon high school and think it was hell.

highschool=drama. drama drama drama. I hate drama.
also rules. i hate rules. but i didnt hate highschool. my first love was in highschool, oh how i miss her.

high school is OK. I just hate all the dumbasses and the sluts. And the teachers. And the rules. And the drama. Actually, I hate high school

i liked the sluts

yeah the sluts were ok by me. ;)

fake people and teachers that make your life miserable

haha what the people above me said

hot girls happen to be sluts, so it's just whatever. Hot girls happen to be dumbasses, so whatever. Gotta love them babes!

I love high school, except a few parts obviously. Waking up early + staying awake through classes come to mind.

I hate waking up early, all the retarded cliques, the stupid cafeteria that is literally divided among each clique, the immature kids who won't grow up until they're 30, the kids who tell everyone how drunk/high they get each weekend, the guidance counselors who can't do their jobs, the average SAT scores of 480, under qualified and just plain ****ty teachers, busy work, limit on AP classes, required free periods. The list goes on and on.

Olecdude, I went to high school in Michigan. I'm a UMiami student :P

You don't talk to many good looking girls do you?

I don't get why everyone hated the cliques...

^^ probably because they weren't in them IMO...

op: Anyways, I didn't hate high school. I just really really really don't like it lol. By the end of my high school year, I was completely overwhelmed. I also didn't end it the way I wished I could have...

Anyways, high school was definietly a mixed experience for me. More lows than highs, but I try to look at them as 'learning experiences'. Otherwise, I really have to own up to the fact that all the extra activities, hard work I did was really for nothing.

Teachers were nice though. Well, 99.9% of 'em.
