My dd (UChicago class of 2016) never got much of anything, let alone a t-shirt, before she was accepted EA. After she was accepted, however, but before she committed, she received some cool things. A couple of books, a scarf, a calendar.

Good luck to everyone! I remember this time last year sitting with my daughter while her finger hovered over the “send” key at 2am on November 1. She was scared and nervous and questioning her self and her essays…but she was accepted and life turned out fine. Deep breaths hopefuls, everything will work out the way it’s supposed to, I promise. There was a delay for the east coast that year as well, I believe it was a nor’easter that caused power outages. They extended the deadline then as well, but strictly only for those affected by the storm.

There was an e-mail back in July which had a link to request a shirt. My D did not do that, but she recently got a shirt, I think because she sent her ACT scores. It’s white and a size M (too big!)

intparent, it looks like our D2’s are looking at some of the same places! I remember a few years ago when our D1’s were both trying to get State Dept clearances while studying abroad! I will be curious to see where she ends up (heck, I’m curious to see where my own ends up)

Just went back and I indeed receive that email.

The link for a free shirt is at the VERY bottom of the email tho (just one sentence). They’re probably checking to see who actually reads their emails :p

DS got a white one last week. He received sunglasses when he visited in Aug. He had already submitted ACT (34) and Common App, but not the UChicago supplement. His fits perfectly :)

I’m a senior at a small private school in Canada.
I never sent anything to uchicago, but i signed up for the collegeboard’s student search services and the stuff started pouring in.
I never got a t-shirt, but I got two emails during the summer and since school started, i’ve recieved 8 things by snail mail. Some were packages with information booklets, I got a copy of “The Life of the Mind”, a little thing with quotes about chicago and a poster (that I put up in my room :D).
I’m so glad that I recieved all of these things because I never even thought about applying before but now that I’ve gotten all of this great information and done my own research, I can really see myself going there
I even had a lot of fun writing my extended essay! Their topics are amazing!

Well, after that wall of text, all that I can say is that if you get their packages, then enjoy them but if you don’t, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t apply or that you won’t get in. I doubt that all of the people that are accepted have recieved things in the mail. Wait and see, maybe I won’t get in even after having recieved all of these packages.

I got one after submitting two ACT scores, both 32s. I also visited the campus and did the whole info session deal. I never clicked the link for the free shirt though. Perhaps they just look at who seems to be the most interested in the school?

I never got any t-shirts or sunglasses as a prospective student, just an onslaught of e-mails and packets. My first U Chicago gear was the scarf they sent with the acceptance package (it’s cute, but def not suitable for Chicago weather). Don’t worry, if you’re accepted and decide to come, you will be showered with more than enough free shirts during O Week.

I’m applying RD and never heard about the free shirt thing until I saw people on Twitter getting them and then I was like, “Fine, if you don’t like me then I don’t like you.”

UChicago and NYU have the best mail though. If only they put all that advertising budget into financial aid, lol?

I requested one because my friend gave me a link…it has nothing to do with your chances of getting in. It’s only to attract interest. You can get one if someone gives you the link… I would, but I’m on my phone right now.

My friend asked me for the link, I dug it out of my email but looks like the links for the shirts and glasses don’t work anymore. I agree it has nothing to do with your chances, anyone can request one.

I love the UChicago t-shirt but I was kinda disappointed when I wore it around my friends and no one even seemed to notice or know what UChicago is. O well haha

@steelergolf11, is it because, perhaps lot of people are just aware of traditional Ivy+ universities even though UChicago made a remarkable progress in recent past years? UChicago is ranked 4th but I guess people are more aware of univs like Stanford, MIT etc which are in fact, slightly lower in ranking compared to UChciago.
