package from uni of chicago?

Yesterday I got a package in the mail from them- a white t shirt with a cute letter from them. Just wondering who else got this, and would this help my chances?

My son got one too. We suppose it was just to further encourage him to apply, since he had his SAT sent to them, but in his case it is unlikely to increase any chance of acceptance once they see all his stats. Good luck, though!

Just got one too.

What! I want a Tshirt!

I didn’t get a letter with my shirt…D:, but I did get a shirt, among lots of other things. UC wants to encourage as many people to apply as possible so that they can reject more students and decrease their admissions rate, therefore increasing their ranking on the US News college rankings board.

However, they don’t want to look suspicious, so they only send mail to people whom they would give at least half a consideration to, nobody with a 1900 SAT and a 3.0 GPA is going to get bombarded with UC letters because there’s no chance in hell that they’d accept such a person.

My theory:

You get letters, pamphlets, booklets, and posters (yes, I got a poster) if you entered the Student Search Service or sent out your PSAT scores and they think you wouldn’t be a completely obvious rejection.

You get a sticker, sunglasses, and other stuff if your local admissions rep comes to your school and a group of students attends his/her presentation.

You get a shirt once you’ve sent in your SAT scores and your scores are within the range that they’re looking for.

That’s my guess. Good luck with your UChicago application.
