Why did you apply to Oberlin?

For those who were accepted or applied to Oberlin or who are applying to Oberlin, why did you apply ?

b/c Oberlin is an EXCELLENT school :)

I know it is an excellent school. I mean, for some specific reasons

I originally applied because I liked what I read about Oberlin in a couple guidebooks, and its marketing materials resonated with me (unfortunately, they're much worse now -- it's a big cause of tension between current students and administration). It wasn't one of my top choices, though. I was accepted and visited, and it seemed like a pretty good place, but it wasn't until I arrived that I really began to love it. It's all worked out pretty well for me.

Personally I wanted a medium-small liberal arts school with an amazing music program, and Oberlin fit that perfectly, but people's reasons are largely individual - I'd suggest you determine for yourself whatever you find appealing about the school if you're wondering what to write on the "Why Oberlin" essay, because they don't like packaged/brochure-recycled/borrowed answers.

Oberlin is a very nice, little liberal arts school in a pretty town. They are strong across the board, but have particularly good biology programs and AMAZING research opportunities. The people are nice and the professors are supposed to be great. Overall, it seems like the kind of place where you learn tons in your classes, get a lot of individual attention, do some great independent research and then go to a great Ph.D program.

I kinda wrote a generic "why oberlin" essay : (. It was very, very honest though.
