Hey, sorry this is so late. I’m not a Trinity student, but I am a rising senior who has visited campus.

Trinity has such a great environment surrounding it. It’s in a huge city with a lot of spunk (don’t know if you’ve ever been to San Antonio, but it’s great), but it feels like it’s in a suburb. When I visited, the people were genuinely friendly and nice. I was with a huge group and am a quiet person, but the tour guides still learned my name.

The dorms are Trinity’s pride and joy. They ARE pretty nice. They’re all suite style, so there are no communal bathrooms. Most of them have balconies.

The campus is gorgeousssssss. Oh my goodness.

I met with the chair of the English department and a history professor. Both of them were incredibly nice and spent a lot of time talking with me. They were so supportive of me and the Trinity environment–they knew so many things about departments that they were not even a little associated with.

One of the things that stuck with me the most from my tour happened to someone else. Our guide was asking what people wanted to study, and this one girl (actually, her stagemom-esque mother) said Russian. Lo and behold, our guide almost majored in Russian, and he saw his Russian prof walking into the library as we were. He called her over and told her in Russian about this girl. The prof pulled the girl aside and talked to her one-on-one for probably five minutes. Completely unplanned.

Let me know if there’s anything specific you or your son want to know. I’m from Texas and have several friends attending Trinity in the fall.

Thanks so much for your reply…m glad I checked the posts!

We were not able to visit any colleges so relying a lot on CC posts and friends who have kids in colleges. Waiting for school to open so can talk to the GC. We have had a new one every year!

Back to Trinity, my son would like to do Comp Sc there (they do not have Engnr). I looked at the major - but did not get much out of it. Should we write to the dept?

We are also looking at UT and SMU besides GT, Rice, Vandy. His GPA is not up there for Rice but will still apply. SAT scores are good. He is strong in Math and very into programming.

How is UTD? Son does not want to do too many core classes and wants to jump right in!

Though not involved in either CS or eng., D says she hears lots of good things about both.
TU has engineering science. I think if you look into it you may be pleasantly surprised.

Great! Shall look into it. Its already August and I can’t believe we do not have a final list yet.

Son wants to be near a town, he likes to walk with friends and go to restaurants etc., so I think SA will be good for that, plus good weather. My only concern would be good program and faculty.

He is actually quite into programming these days, all self taught. He will need the right framework to get challenged and not get bored. He has quite a few AP’s done already and all set with the SAT’s.
