Why do college students like alcohol?

I thought shots were dominant in the south and beer in the north... is that about it ? (and no the east and west do not drink anything lol)

^hehe no not at all

hmm.... (subtle cough) +r0|| (subtle cough)

The op had a question: why college kids like alcohol.. not why sweetny likes to troll all over the place. Just answer the op and if you don't have anything productive to say just go and start a Fight Club thread or something.

What?!? I did I said I drank because I like the taste of beer. Then I got attacked. I was responding to this part of your post:

"and no the east and west do not drink anything lol"

Since I lived in NYC and now I live in LA I thought that was funny

Why is everyone so jumpy...

Y'all could use a drink.

it's the middle of the night and i am going to miss the ncaa games and i'm kindof ****ed haha lol
misinterpeted your posts...

i am going with mallomar's idea... i'm off to the UCLA bar. cya

No worries :)

personally, i have never needed alcohol to be open, have fun, and interact with people. i just really don't have that many social barriers, feel really comfortable with who i am, and am not afraid to show it. i have other friends who don't feel like they can have fun or be percieved as fun.

i personally feel that if you don't feel comfortable with yourself enough to be able to loosen up around other people so that you need alcohol to do so, then that's a personal problem. i don't believe in alcohol induced fun because it's not fueled by the personality of a person, but by the alcohol.

also, i'm on meds so i can't drink it. also i have suffered alot of abuse at the hands of alcoholism in my family and have seen way too much of hospitals due to alcohol. it just completely turns me off.

^Lol bias much?

Holy crap, I didn't think people here hated drinking so much.

i do have a bias lol mallomar, but i'm just saying in my experience. lots of the friends i love dearly drink and i don't have an issue with that at all :D it only bothers me when people judge me automatically on the basis that i don't drink. you wouldn't believe how many people are really mean and exclude me on the basis of my personal preferences. :(

I wonder if many of you who hate alcohol have ever tried it more than once, let alone ever. This question is just like asking people, "Why do you smoke? Why do you play videogames?". Why do you think they do? B/c it's appealing to them.

In my case, its appeal is two-fold; alcohol tastes good, and makes you feel good (drunk or tipsy). I don't need it to loosen up or to hook-up with women, but those are other reasons people may like to drink. It does come with its negatives (ie. drunk driving or liver problems), but so do many "good" things. If people knew how to drink correctly these negatives could be minimized.

Not seeing appeal in something is one thing, but being ignorant as to why other people see it just makes you look like a dumb***.

FYI: http://www.reason.org/news/alcohol_use_091406.shtml

for the record, i have tried alcohol before, more than once, and harder stuff than just cheap beer. :D

Why does it make you feel weird? Do you drink a lot or not? And the opinions on these posts are just the opinions of some people, not all people in America.

You tried answering my question by restating it. Why do you like alcohol=Why do you find alcohol appealing?

Alcohol, to me, doesn't taste good.

Also, why does being drunk feel good to you?

In making this statement, you made the incorrect assumption that I somehow believe that people who drink tend to attend less prestigious schools. I know that that's not true at all.

Drinking to temporarily avoid problems is cowardice.

college is all about stickin' your neck out, having fun, getting a bit revolutionary.

Huh. I always thought that college was about educating yourself for the future, becoming a mature adult and not wasting your parent's money. Silly me.

jesus christ, just because you dont drink doesnt make you a moral superior to everyone else. so many people are opposed to drinking initially because they dont want to tarnish their perfect little body or conscious and they're above that, but then when they finally wake up (by reading camus or just thinking logically or observing the world or however it happens, as it inevitably will, hopefully now rather than in a midlife crisis) they try a drink and realize that theres no problem with it. Just because someone likes to get drunk doesn't make them stupid or immoral or a worse person than you because, in the end, people should live their lives however they want to, not how "god" wants them to. life is pointless and everyone is going to end up in the ground sooner or later, so why not have fun?
