Why do engineers with low gpa (under 3.0) think they are impressive.

When they aren't. A low GPA even in engineering isn't something to be proud of. I think so funny when engineers with 2.5 gpas laugh at other majors.

Well, I think they can laugh at people who get 2.5's in "American Studies" or "Peace and Conflict Studies" or "Leisure Studies". Truth be told, I think anybody who gets a 2.5 in one of those majors probably hasn't exactly been studying all that hard.

While we're on soapboxes, why is it that when people throw away their paper towels in public restrooms, they just kind of lay them on top of the incredibly fluffy and non-compacted trash bin filled with uncrumpled paper towels so that after I dry my hands, the bin's too full to put my used paper towel in, so I have to use that paper towel to push the other discarded paper towels down into the bin? Because after that, even if I haven't touched any of the other discarded paper towels with anything other than my own discarded paper towel, my hands are STILL gonna feel dirty until the next time I wash them!

I hate people who do that!

Oh yes, ofcourse. Anyone can laugh at these people.

Are you feeling okay today, aibarr? I mean, I know Rice got thrashed by Texas, but it is just another football game.

I thought we were asking rhetorical questions having to do with pet peeves...

Yea?

Well, my pet peeve is how FSU plays in the ACC (Almost Competitive Conference) and plays only 2 meaningful games (Florida and Miami), if they are able to win at least one of them; they are in a top four bowl game or in the running for the national title. That is annoying!

I was. Just commented because I felt like taking a jab at those people.

You know what I like taking a jab at? Cannibals. Really, name one that doesn't deserve getting a good-natured skewering. Can't do it? Exactly. That is all.

here's my pet peeve.
when the dorky asian kid in ur math class with the glasses in the front row is called smart by ur classmates or friends, and looked up to. it gets on my nerves! how do u know they are smart! i hate giving people more credit than they deserve. its just me. im not one to go around admiring ppl like that. not just math, it goes for alot of things. and im tired of hearing ppl being called smart right and left, esp if they are math nerds. so what... they are good at math. does that mean they are good in other fields? maybe, maybe not. but dont judge ppl on how well they do in one subject.

i very very rarely say that someone is flat out smarter than me. for ex. the valedictorian of my class in high school. the kid ranked no.1, in my mind i NEVER put him above me. i was ranked like 35. sure, i respect that he's a hard worker, im not gonna put him down. i respect that. but i dont say that he's smarter than me, ever. its not that im sooo cocky that i think that way. sure i have confidence in my intelligence, but its not a matter of cockiness. its just my personal view on intelligence and smarts.

im also sick of the stereotype that math/science=smart
and no respect is given to Philosophy or english related fields in general. i highly respect those fields, in fact if i had a quantum physics major and a philosophy major in front of me i give them both equal respect in my mind. i dont envy the physics major.

i dont put ppl on a pedistal, EVER, and im tired of seeing other ppl around me do it. i just dont think that way. and if i start to i catch myself and slap some sense back into me.

Hey hey...2.5 is the norm around here...you only get a 3.0 if you're lucky

Getting the average means you aren't special. The average GPA for the econ major here is a 2.7. Getting a 2.5 isn't special.

Them getting a 2.5 will probably actually get them a decent, well paying career?

It depends on the college. Judging from the location, the college that Ferst is referring to has 9000 engineering students who are graded on a c curve for 4 (or more often 5) years. Survival is a notable achievement. A 2.5 means that you are likely to become a very good engineer.

In far too many arts and crafts courses, an A requires only consistent agreement with the professor. Engineering courses, on the other hand, are brutally objective; and sucking up wastes precious time.

the average GPA in most engineering disciplines is usually lower than 3.0, so getting a 3.0 in a degree, where only the very smart ones make it through (at least in competitive schools), is pretty impressive in itself

Average isn't special people. Getting the average GPA means you aren't special.

Most majors at my school are curved to a C.

I am just tired of engineers telling me how much harder their major is, and how much better they are than me. When these people have 2.5 GPA, and I have a 3.5. My major might not be engineering but it isn't easy.

Perhaps you shouldn't have chosen an inferior major then? :)

I'm only kidding...:)
