Why do SBU kids complain so much?

I've seen 9 groups on Facebook devoted to "SBU Sucks" in one form or another, sbusucks.com website, studentsreview.com (bad ratings), and various other complaints about the school, everything from the admin. to the parking to the food to the social life...I have to ask, as it worries me, where is all this coming from and why? Is it reasonable to put stock in these complaints? Are these kids just lost and a very small part of the school population (hopefully around 1%)? I came into this school with a completely open mind but these kids are sending me a bad impression and I really dislike it. Please be honest...

some people like to complain about everything. some people are simply bitter and refuse to look at the good aspects. Honestly, there are people in every school who will complain about one thing or another. Some people just dont want to be there in the first place. whatever. the administration is pretty slow. the food isnt the best, however there will be new additions this and the next fall[s] so it wont be that bad. social life is great. stony brook has plenty of things going on. you just have to find something you like and go for it. dont worry about them and have a great summer!

The really bitter people are a vocal but small minority who for the most part either never gave things a chance or expected everything to be handed to them on a silver platter.

SBU isn't perfect, but no place is. This is a damn good place to be, and I love it here. Retain that open mind and form your own opinion! You'll be far better for it; people who decide they're going to be unhappy usually are.

The food is sometimes mediocre and is often overpriced, but stacks up favorably to food at my friends' schools and can be really good. The social life is great unless you expect the world to come to your doorstep instead of making the effort to meet people, and there are tons of things to do. I don't know much about the current parking situation because it's been a while since I was a commuter, but I've heard things have improved a lot in the past couple of years. The administration is bloated and unwieldy as a whole (what bureaucracy isn't?) but has a lot of individuals in it who care a lot about students and are really helpful... Shirley Strum Kenny is a douche who cares a lot more about image than about students, but fortunately most students never interact with her :-P

The bottom line is, don't let people's whining keep you from enjoying the good things about the school.
