Schools accept people who are dedicated to learning and yes, will graduate from their school and make lots of $$. Why? So they can donate money back to their school!! =P

Yes, they are looking for legacies and first generation college students.

I’m a first generation college student and I will tell you flat out that the only help I get from my parents for college stuff is encouragement (and $$?? haha)…which is good yes, but not compared to other friends whose parents edit their essays…do this…do that…blah blah blah. I dunno, I just feel like I’m more independent that way. /shrug.

So parents, definitely don’t go to college just so your kids have an “advantage” in getting into college. Its really not that significant I don’t think.

I have got to wonder what the point of a parent’s educational background is for an AdCom…
The Gatekeepers indicated that if a student is a 1st gen college applicant–their admissions rates are higher…

A parent’s education is not an indicator/predictor of success/value of education in a family. My late FiL didn’t finished highschool but became the Pres of the Senate in his state and owned several business… with only a GED…yet he was quite the businessman and leader He sent 3 of 5 kids through school–2 through grad school --based on the kids preferences/goals.

My three degrees aren’t predictors of my boys and their future…Both boys are gifted but they are completely different in every way in the way they approach school…

If a parents educational level were a factor as some contend–then only kids with parents who are MDs, JD, PhDs would go to college…
