I mean, seriously. Most people are put down by others. Plus you probably think you will definitely make it in or definitely won't make it in after making your board and that may not be true. Also, how many of these people actually REALLY know? NO ONE. There are no point to these boards!

Yup.... Even with 2100 posts, and countless more uncounted in High School Life, I have never made a "Chance me PLZ!!!" thread..

Even more baffling is the "Chance me and I'll chance you back" threads... if you think you're sufficiently knowledgeable about the process to be able to "chance" someone, can't you gauge your own probability of acceptance?

Reassuring others? Judging your competition? I'm not sure

I do see value in the boards though. Its been helpful for me, because people here have commented on my potential college application choices so that I can narrow down my list come senior year, and be realistic about my choices at the same time

Chance threads are made by stressful students who just want to get a little bit of reassurance. There's nothing wrong or desperate about them; they can just be annoying on the boards for specific colleges. I wouldn't discourage someone from making one, just tell them to keep it on this board.
