With so many of us hearing back from Penn State now and anxiously making our college decisions, I'd love to know the individual reasons why past, current, and future students love Penn State. I'm sure it'd help many people as they make their decisions.

As a son of a Pitt grad and raised in suburban Pittsburgh, I was brought up as a Pitt fan and, by default, was taught to dislike Penn State throughout my childhood. However, when it came time to visit colleges last year, I had to give PSU a chance due to its academic reputation and convenient location from my home. Last April, we took the trip up to Happy Valley as a family, even my dad (who vowed to never step foot at Penn State) and I will never forget the first drive down college avenue. As I looked at State College to the left and campus to the right, I thought to myself “This is what college should be.” I was blown away by the college vibe that I got upon visiting Penn State for the first time and the school spirit as I toured campus. Even my dad admitted that he was impressed. No other college that I’ve visited has replicated that true “college feel” that I got from PSU, and it seemed that I would rate/compare every college that I visited afterwards to Penn State.

It’s a beautiful, full town filled with college kids who are smart enough to get into a Top 50 school but laid back enough to know how to party hard. There’s something for everyone :]

Well, I used to love Penn State … until November 4, 2011.

@MarkBass, why did the scandal make you stop loving Penn State?

There already is a Sandusky thread and so I don’t wish to hijack this thread.
But it should be pretty obvious that the scandal has revealed things that have ruined the affection that many had for the school.

I don’t have any family connections or ties to Penn State, I just happened to stumble across it on one of those college search websites when I was a freshman. After reading up on it, and seeing everything it had to offer I knew that Penn State was where I wanted to be. I go to a really small high school in New York, where literally everyone hates each other, there’s no school spirit, and no sense of community. Penn State is the complete opposite. Besides being really great academically, it’s also has an amazing community of alumni and students. I know that going to Penn State will provide me with so many networking opportunities, and a good chance of finding a decent job after graduation. I just want to go to a school where I’ll feel like I’m part of one big community with a common love for their school. I know that a lot has happened with the scandal over the past few months, but just the way that the students and alumni has responded and joined together has just been really amazing. I’m hoping that I’ll get to go to PSU!

I love Penn State because it has everything I want in a school. A highly ranked business program, great job connections, an amazing amount of school spirit, and a great environment. I immediately fell in love with Penn State after looking into it. Hearing the WE ARE excites me so much and I cannot wait to be a Nittany Lion. The scandal deferred me for a while, but it could not shake my love for the school as a whole. I am SO proud of Penn State despite everything thats happened and I actually feel really lucky that they actually believed in me enough to accept me into their business school. It also really upsets me when people say anything bad about Penn State haha, it means that much to me. Can’t wait to meet the Class of 2016!
