Hi all, I am a student at Parsons and am doing a project about students interested in coming to NYC for college that are not originally from the area.

Just wondering why are you interested in coming to NYC and what are your expectations? What do you think it will be like to adjust to city life vs. a "regular" university? What influences/resources have you used to learn more about life at an urban university? Do you think shows like Sex and the City and Gossip Girl show a realistic portrayal of NYC?

Would appreciate any and all feedback! And if anyone has Q's about life in NYC as a fashion student, I can definitely try to help you out! :)

I am going to NYC because I believe alongside Paris, it is where my career as a fashion coordinator will bloom. NYC is a cuthroat city. It is not as those tv shows portray it. Being in NYC you are an individual, and you only truly have yourself in this city. The difference between a regular university and the cutthroat fashion schools such as FIT, or Parsons is that you must go after what you want, the school does not hand it to you. You go to your college, and then you step back out into nyc where you go on with your own life, not "college" life. I am personally applying to FIT for FMM, i believe it is on par with Parsons- but the price is definitely more affordable. I am coming from eastern CT. I spend a lot of time in manhattan- my boyfriend currently attends FIT for fashion photography, and as i get to know the city i grow to love it. Although it is not others "cup of tea", it is certainly mine. I love how fast paced it is, it is genuinly open minded and intriguing. If you want to be someone in this city- you certainly have to know the right people and make yourself known. It's a city for the daring, the competitive and the determined.
