An admirable sentiment, to go to college just for learning. Who goes to MIT just for the social life? But I could attempt to go to Cal-Tech for exactly the same reasons as you stated, it's just that if I ever get free time from problems sets, lectures and other obligations of an academic nature, I would like to know that the opportunity to amuse myself in other ways is there.

Learning occurs in many forms - not all of them include problem sets and lectures. Don't misunderstand - I'm no bookie who memorizes chemistry texts in her free time, nor do I seek four years of work and no play. But I'm one who loves to soak up every minute of lectures (even though I rarely take notes) and gets excited (really) about doing physics homework. I love to think, take pictures, and I go out almost every weekend. You can love learning and seek (not just 4 years but) a lifetime of learning without depriving yourself of all other joys of life. I'm expecting to learn just as much from my classmates as I will from the professors, that's why I'm choosing my student body carefully. MIT differs from Caltech in that it caters to nearly all my interests. Though I love math and I love science, I would never want an education comprised solely of those two disciplines. I'm a well-rounded person and I'm just searching for well-rounded schools :)

let me simplify it for you pebbles--
just b/c schoolwork excites you doesnt make you a special person (most ppl on CC enjoy learning). you idealize MIT way too much--prepare to be disappointed. I hope you enjoy the co-ed bathrooms.

(the last sentence was just a joke--dont take anything personal)

simplify... translate... same difference of course.

" (most ppl on CC enjoy learning). "

Hmm... that might be an unfounded assumption that needs to be backed up. Just because one is interested in getting into college - or getting into "prestigious" colleges at that - does not mean one has a love of education.

or vice-versa
have you ever thought of that miss MITisthebestplaceformeb/citstheworldsmostprestigioustechnicalinstitution?

OH NO I DI'INT!

Wow, I think this warrants an appearance of my rarely used anime emoticon...

O_o

I would still love MIT the same if it wasn't so highly regarded. It's a wonderful place to learn, live, and develop as an individual. If it were Harvard, I think your argument would stand on more solid ground.

im just playin with you now pebbles--if you wanna go to MIT thats your decision and im no one to tell you that you shouldnt go. I just hope its everything you expect it to be and more...good luck, either way :D

lol thanks. :P

LSA--dont kid yourself, MIT is just as prestigious and good (or better) as Harvard
gasp! dont tell the harvard kids i said that!

Eh, but it doesn't RESONATE as a common household name in the way that Harvard does. I mean, not everyone knows MIT exists... but Harvard is epitomized.

resonate....thats such a beautiful word

the 60 second rule is not my friend

perhaps unbeknownst to you there is a hidden joke in what you said.

I tried to break
"MITisthebestplaceformeb/citstheworldsmostprestigioustechnicalinstitution?"
into

MIT is the best place for M.E.B (Mechanical Engineering Bachelors'?) / CIT is the worlds most prestigious technical institution

:-P

I didn't read the whole thread. Just want to share with you my answer to the thread title: I want to be with people like me. I want to be with you guys. :)

Hey! that's what I said back on the first page :)

That's a good thing. :D

Oh, really? Yes, you did! I didn't read past the first post. :) In almost the exact same words, too, except that you put "more" in: I want to be with "more" people like me. Wow... It just proves that I will really find people like me at MIT. LOL... and I put those words in my essay. Did you?

In so many words, yep. I talked about wanting to finally be with people I could relate to. :)

I am surprised.

I want to go becuase when I read the last few pages of the "EA coundown", right now they are 5 and 6, I see people exactly like me wanna go there too. You guys! I know you have said it to, but this is the perfect place to me to meet smart quirky people who you could say "So what about that String theory!" to and they would know what you were talking about. Yes I know there are several colleges that are like this but this is why I like MIT. Also they actualy have humanities classes, which I realy whish to take, becuase I believe that you need english and history and so on to understand people and why certain things are the way they are. And I only have like two white friends right now so I'd be used to the population(J/K about this reason. I myself am white, though the town I come from is nicknamed "Little India" so I am in the minority here)

And MIT is sexy.
