Why do you want to go to MIT?

Frion -

u from edison or Jersey City? lol im indian btw

dude, you're more biased than you realize. I understand it was a joke, but that that even is an issue..

I'm from Iselin which is joined with Edison, right next to it.

See I think there is no point in saying I am biased. We are all biased to some extent, but I don't consider my self very biased at all. My best friends are Indian, yet this dosnt come into my mind. I hate political correctness so I don't care, call me biased but all I was doing was pointing out a fact which I and many of my friends find amusing. I also call myself a fob becuase I wasn't born in the US, but I dont consider myself biased or anything for doing that. Well everyone has their own oppinion so w/e.

(Sorry for double post didnt see the last post before I posted)

"dude, you're more biased than you realize. I understand it was a joke, but that that even is an issue.."
If ur talking about frion, im one of his Indian friends and I know for a fact that he is anything but opinionated about things as such. don’t you think you are being biased if you say that he is being biased? What’s wrong with him calling the place little India? If you are truly unbiased, would it be any different from an Indian calling the place little India?

"don’t you think you are being biased if you say that he is being biased?"

Think about what you've said. If I said that I think what he said is biased, yes, that clearly logically leads to believing that I myself must be biased too.

NOR do I give a d.amn as to him calling where he lives WHATEVER the hell he wants.

opinionation isn't the issue. Who cares WHAT your friends are, or where you live? Why bother noticing?

In conclusion, you ought to reconsider some of the fundamental assumptions you made in that post.

"We are all biased to some extent"
I completely agree. But pointing out the race of your friends is unecessary. How should that be a factor in anything?

On the other hand, I found your joke about the environment at MIT offensive. Race etc. doesn't, shouldn't matter.

Anyway, how soon from now do admissions notices get posted? Has anyone found out yet?

admissions notices aren't posted. they're mailed :)

mail is aka the post. (e.g., post office)

But in a wired world, I understand the confusion. At any rate I meant, how soon from now do admissions notices get mailed?

sorry :). in the usa we tend not to say 'post'... i know it's said that way in uk english, though...

the last we've heard is that they are shooting for saturday ... but that was a speculation by an admissions officer and even he said it could change based on how soon they finished.

check matt's blog or here at cc for updates.. :D

perhaps unbeknownst to you there is a hidden joke in what you said.

I tried to break
"MITisthebestplaceformeb/citstheworldsmostprestigioustechnicalinstitution?"
into

MIT is the best place for M.E.B (Mechanical Engineering Bachelors'?) / CIT is the worlds most prestigious technical institution

:-P

[/quote]

OMG ROFLMAO!

It is: MIT is the best place for me because it is the worlds most prestigious technical institution!

Dammit.

Hey, guys, won't be seeing you guys at MIT anymore... got accepted to Upenn

Heh, congratulations!

thanks, good luck to you...

Hey congratulations :) ENjoy Penn

Laters, and have fun wherever your future takes you.

Congrats, and have fun at Penn!

My reason for applying to MIT is that I know exactly what I want to do with my life: research artificial intelligence. MIT is, from what I can gather, the best place to do this at, what with their new Escher-style Cognitive Science building and all. Moreover, every time I pick up a ScienceWeek magazine, MIT is credited in nearly every article for making the discovery described. The chances of me being able to make a breakthrough in this field at MIT are therefore high. I choose MIT because I want nothing more than to be a scientist at a university which happens to be the epicenter of all scientific thought.

and not only is the incoming president's background in brain/cogsci, but the infamous CSAIL: http://www.csail.mit.edu/index.php
