I mean, the campus feels so safe to me. But maybe everyone is less likely to take precautions against burglary because it feels to safe to them?

It’s sad to see that Brown is #18 on crime rate raking, it definitely has room to improve, including school/local police and student themselves. But when you see Yale - 23rd, Harvard - 20th, MIT - 5th, you know that Brown is much safer than MIT, and it is close to Harvard and Yale.

I guess SquealOfRaven is trying to bash Brown! I would like to see he also posts the same info on Harvard/Yale and MIT thread. haha!!

I’m not trying to bash Brown - I love the culture of the school a lot. That said, difficult questions need to be asked, and this is one question in particular that I’d really like to see addressed.

It’s a MAJOR discrepancy - really - maybe it has to do with racial prejudice on the part of my Asian parents (sigh), but WHY do my parents freak out about places like UChicago/Yale/Columbia if they don’t freak out about places like Brown/MIT/Harvard? It seems to be the same for other people too. I just want this question addressed for once and for all.

That ranking article gives ZERO explanation on how it was calculated and therefore none of your questions can be answered. I will say that if you lock your door when you’re out and don’t walk around Thayer street alone after 230am that you can almost guarantee a crime free brown experience.

Anyway, let me try to articulate for you, Squeal, why people might seem a bit suspicious of your motives sometimes when you post here. Your posts seem to follow the following format:

[Here’s something that I discovered and will assume everyone agrees with and is also concerned by!]
[It doesn’t seem to be right, though! Can someone help me figure out why it’s wrong?]
[Don’t mean to be attacking Brown, just want to get to the bottom of this once and for all!]

It just feels a bit like when a guy on an infomercial tells you about a problem you didn’t even know you had – and, generally, that you don’t actually have. Most of the concerns that you post about are just not actual concerns.
