When I checked on the UF admissions it said my high school transcripts were needed. Why would they want to look at my high school transcripts if I will already complete my AA degree at a community college? I do not want to send my high school transcripts in because I think it will ruin my chances. Although I graduated with a 3.56 in high school, my ACT scores didn't look too good. They were average and honestly I didn't care what I got on it because I still got Bright Futures! Does anyone know why they want to look at my high school work? Is it for the foreign language requirement?

Yes, it is for the foreign language requirement. If you met the requirement at a CC they will not need your high school transcripts.

Is this met for transfer students or does it apply to graduate students as well?

Do you think that UF will look at the ACT scores although they are not needed for transfers? My ACT scores show on my official high school transcript. Oh and are they going to look at my grades in high school besides the foreign language requirement that is needed?

“Does anyone know why they want to look at my high school work?”

its part of who you are; often its not just about the GPA avg but how you did.

I have had requests for high school transcripts even though I have picked up multiple college degrees and decades of work experience, so get used to supplying your life story ;-)

new2ufparent thank you for the information. In high school I didn’t perform as well as I wanted to. I had many things going on my freshman year and sophomore year of high school which explains my 3.56 GPA. I got several C’s my first two years of high school. I just hope that they are not going to look down upon me based on my past. The students that apply right out of high school are very bright ones. They are students that worked hard to get that perfect GPA and I just never met that criteria in high school for several reasons.

I don’t think HS has to be “part of who you are”. I personally had a really difficult time during HS for various personal reasons, and barely was able to graduate… I’m pretty certain I didn’t even have a 2.0 when I graduated. I considered going to CC my “second chance” and worked really hard to get good grades. If high school had to haunt me for the rest of my life I’d never have the opportunity to goto a decent university… so Lavendar, I honestly don’t think they consider it, and if anything it shows how seriously you’re taking your education.

Thanks for your reply. It has encouraged me not to look down at myself. Realistically, people go through hectic things in their lives; some schools do not know that. I do not believe that someones past in all cases, shows who they “really” are. Did you send in your high school transcripts when you applied to UF? I worry too much about transferring and it’s not healthy.

Yeah I sent mine in, obviously didn’t affect their admission decision and they even gave me the foreign language credit with no problems even though I don’t think I did well in either of my spanish classes

Your SAT and ACT appear on CC transcripts and will appear on college transcripts in the state of Florida to meet CLAST requirements. IT IS NO BIG DEAL. They will then appear on your UF transcript when you apply to grad school :(.

I don’t think your high school transcripts will be a factor when applying as a transfer. I believe that only the office of admissions looks at them just to make sure that the foreign language requirement is met. Once they determine that you have met all of the requirements to be eligible to apply to the university, they pass your application along to your specific college. The college you applied for decides whether or not you will be accepted, and they have no reason to look at your high school transcripts.

I’m hoping that they’re going to look at just the foreign language requirement. My UF status says: Your application for admission to the University of Florida for the Fall 2011 term has been received and is being evaluated. Once your grade point average is calculated and your eligibility is confirmed, your application will be sent to your college for a final decision. I really hope they like my stats and hopefully my essays. I’m so nervous. I thought grad school just looks at college transcripts? If I get denied, I’m going to ask why… Does anyone know when I’ll get an answer? I am assuming in February.

Hey I am a wondering student in high school preparing for dual enrollment courses. I was wondering if you got in to uf because I have the same problems of a couple 2 C’s, 1 freshman year and another in sophomore. Do they affect admission decision?

If you complete your AA while still in high school (meaning you graduate with both a HS diploma and an AA), I believe you have apply as both an incoming freshman AND a transfer. This means that you will have to chose a major and have the critical tracking courses for that major completed, but are still held to the standards of freshman admissions. If, however you are just taking college courses while in high school, but will continue after graduation to complete your AA, you will apply as a transfer. In that case, your high school grades have no bearing on your admission decision. The only reason they want your HS transcripts in that case is for the foreign language requirement. When I applied as a transfer, I had trouble getting my HS transcripts to them. We tried twice to send them electronically and they didn’t go through. Since I did my foreign language requirement while in college, they sent my application through without my HS transcripts. I just finished my first semester and they still don’t have them.
