I went with my younger cousin to USC last week for a visit, who was just recently accepted. I have friends at USC too and we took a look at some of the dorms. While some dorms are nice, i.e. Parkside, some are just downright horrendous, i.e. Trojan Hall. Also, you'd think with the high costs of USC, EVK would have better tasting food? Instead of building a new athletic facility, why doesn't USC allocate some money on renovating some of the housing facilities for students?

EVK is a lot better than it used to be. They just recently remodeled it. USC Dining services do know how to make really good food (just go to a catered banquet to experience that) but they’re not going to make that for a buffet where they have to feed thousands of students and have most of the food be thrown away. It’s just the nature of things.

Those old residence halls? Well, they’re old. The 50-year master plan has most of the housing buildings on campus being torn down and rebuilt, so it’ll happen eventually. They just renovated Trojan hall too. Incremental improvements are made to every dorm every year, it’s just that they can’t do anything about the basic structure of the place. The facilities and equipment are pretty modern, it’s just that the walls are many years old.

Here’s the deal. Most college dorms are complete pits and pigstyes. The amount that they charge for tuition, and fees has nearly zero to do with how nice the facilities are, and everything to do with endowment size, research, salaries, and the amount that they can get away with, knowing that rubes like us will pay it anyway. This is a complete caveat emptor regarding paying for school.

Not to mention that college freshmen are some of the filthiest, most disgusting and least hygienic people in existence.

Is that a joke? “College freshman are filthy people anyways, so let’s not invest in their housing facilities.” Please tell me you are being sarcastic.

No, it’s “college freshmen are filthy and their rooms are disgusting”. Doesn’t matter how great the dorms are if there’s dust and gunk and food debris and puke on everything. I am exaggerating for emphasis but you get the point.

as an RA, housing comes and gives us a presentation of what renovations they’ve done to the various USC-owned dorms and housing complexes. believe it or not they are actually doing a ton of stuff to it and are investing a lot of money.

with regards to the athletic building… donors choose what they want their money to be spent on.
