The primary reason I honestly want to go to Emory is because all the majors that I am considering (English, Economics, Psychology) are strong at Emory. Since I'm applying as an English major, I'm going to discuss why I like their English program (professor, program, certain classes). However, I'm wondering if I'm not going to discuss their Economics/Psychology programs other than mention that I like them, would that count as just reputation? I could say stuff about them, but there's no single component that draws me to those programs other than their "reputation." I know about how these majors work though so I could talk about it, but if I'm being honest, none of those were what made me want to go to Emory.

Ok the first thing is that the admission office doesn't care what major you're applying as. They don't even take it into consideration, because almost everyone changes their major at least once. And everyone drops premed sometime in their first year.

However, focusing on one department is a great idea for the essay. If you are well acquainted with a particular professor's work, you could definitely write about how that interests you. If you're interested in Renaissance gender studies, for example, Dr. Goldberg in the English Dept. is a world-renounced scholar on that subject, and a short essay on his work and how it interests you could be stellar. Likewise with Salman Rushdie or the MARBL collections. Generalities don't work well for this essay. I think you would do much better to focus on a specific aspect.

Winter Break has gotten boring.
