Why essay length emergency! Help!

Hello helpful citizens of cc:
I wrote what I believe to be quite a nice answer to the UChicago Why Question, without realizing that it is recommended to write only about 2 paragraphs. It is possible to cut down my 500 word response to the suggested limit, but i would be removing a personal anecdote that gives insight into why I like learning a particular way and why i love my intended major.

Cutting out the section doesn't make it a horrible essay. Its a typical why essay. I talk about the program i like, extra curricular activities i want to do, etc.

Should I follow the rules and cut it out? or should i stick to my guns?

Don’t cut it out if it drives your point home. I got in with a 550-word Why Chicago essay. Length is secondary to content; if your essay is compelling, length matters less. If it’s boring, length matters more.

nobody really cares about length. if it’s good and not 3 pages (single space) then you are fine.
