Hey guys :)

I got accepted into Georgetown College! I didn't really think I would be accepted at this school, so I never put it on my radar after I applied. Before I was accepted to GT, I was accepted to USC- Dornsife College. Now I'm at the point where I need to decide between to the universities, permitting that financial aid is relatively the same between the two.

Was there anyone here facing this dilemma? If not, why should I choose Georgetown over USC? What makes it stand out? This is a good opportunity to brag about the school ahah

Thanks :)

I am in exactly the same situation! Same two schools! I’d love to hear some feedback

I think what’s clearly the biggest difference between the two is “vibe.” USC is a very West Coast, very California, very LA vibe. Lots of aspiring actors and entertainment/media people. Much bigger (18,316 undergrads, vs. Georgetown’s ~6,500). More diverse, without question (USC is 39% White/Caucasian).

Georgetown is very East Coast, very DC. Lots of aspiring politicians and diplomats/lawyers. Much older (in a lot of ways). More intimate.

I think that a good answer to the question of “why should I choose Georgetown over USC?” is going to depend on what you’re looking to get out of you college experience and what kind of atmosphere you prefer. There are some very general answers to that question (e.g. Georgetown is ranked #20 in US News, USC is #23; or Georgetown is more selective with a 16.9% admit rate, per US News, compared to 19.9% for USC; or Georgetown is slightly cheaper, $44,805 vs. $46,298, again per US News), but they aren’t very good ones. It’s a very personal decision, so the reasons should be personal as well.

@Supernova123 Can you please elaborate a little bit more on your comment above? What is the basis for your assertion?

What type of resources are you referring to? Academics? Recruiting? Athletics? Tough to respond or to evaluate the merits of your comments without at least some concrete facts.

I"d love to hear what you decided and how your experience has been. My son is trying to decide between the two. Is there an issue with grade deflation where you are?
I would one-hundred percent pick USC. I am currently an undergrad at Georgetown, and let me tell you this school is miserable. On the other hand, some of my best friends from high school went to USC, and they have very difficult majors but still love it. The social scene is great, the weather is perfect, and the beach is 15 minutes from campus. I think in general there is a night and day difference in quality of life between the schools, with USC having a far superior quality of life. If I were being completely honest, I would probably try to go to USC if I could do college apps/decisions all over again, and at the time Georgetown was one of my top choices.
@sophomore12 USC has one resource–a natural resource–that DC and Georgetown cannot beat: the weather!! I’d also venture to say the quality of life at USC is also better. Perhaps it is the weather that contributes to the overall environment, but there was a “buzz” at USC that is missing in DC.
@dzleprechaun In some ways DC is “East Coast” but in other ways it is very southern. Not at all your typical “East Coast” city.
