Why Georgetown?????

This question is towards to anyone who wants to go to Georgetown.

Why did/would you choose Georgetown over other university?

What truly distinguish the school from others both academically and socially?

For me, I applied EA because of the school’s location in DC, the unique SFS program that is top-ranked for IR, and because I liked the ability to work during the school term.

  1. Location, location, location. Students here truly value and take advantage of going to school in DC. Whether you're into politics or not, there's definitely an internship for you in the city. Being in the city is nice because it means you can intern during the term, not over the summer, when applications are much more competitive. Particularly if you are into government/politics/policy, you have truly unparalleled opportunities because you're in DC. I can't say enough good things about the speakers who come to campus, which you won't find anywhere outside of DC. (Also, if you do like politics, check out GU Politics at politics.georgetown.edu)
  2. Academics. If you want to be in or near DC, you can't do any better academically. Even if DC is not a selling point for you, though, the academics are still stellar. The professors seem to range from decent to outstanding -- it is VERY unusual to hear of someone who really doesn't like a professor (yes, of course some may be boring, but they're almost never bad). Again tying this to the location, we get some really outstanding professors who also are very involved in their fields professionally because we're in DC (see EJ Dionne and George Akerlof as examples).
  3. Social scene. We don't have sanctioned Greek Life (and the few unsanctioned frats/sororities are a joke), which is totally fine by me. The consequence of this is that instead of meeting friends through rush, you meet friends through clubs that you're involved in, which helps you find like-minded people. Additionally, while a party scene definitely exists, it's also very avoidable if that's not your thing. You can drink if you want, but if that's not your thing, truly no one will care. It's very open and accepting.

Don’t talk about the city, except in a tangential way. If you want to be in DC, why not American or GW? You need to focus on Gtown-specific things, not DC-specific things.
