Why Haven’t I Been Admitted Yet?

Just checked. My daughter was deferred. Will reset the waitingclock.

I got deferred as well.

i also got deffered

Wish there was stats on being deferred. I feel like everyone that gets deferred just ends up being rejected or on the waitlist

I feel like they deferred the majority of us who submitted close to the deadline, just so they don’t miss their deadline.

i submitted my application on October 30th so maybe

Hey guys I got an important message in my email.

Admission to the University of Minnesota is highly competitive. For example, for fall 2018, the University received more than 43,000 applications for a freshman class of approximately 6,000 students. Each year, the competitiveness of admission is determined by the number of applications received, the academic qualifications of the applicant pool, and the number of spaces available in the freshman class.

it doesn’t help that their office is closed due to the weather, talk about inconvenient!!

Not necessarily true @prad14 I got deferred, but I completed my application very early in the process. Sometime in early September or maybe even late August

UMN is goofy in how they roll out admissions. But they don’t defer high-stats applicants, regardless of when the application is submitted.

The communication center phrase says " Admit Other Waitlist Alternate". My daughter applied to CSE (1st choice) and CLA (second choice) and got admitted into CLA. Does this mean she is waitlisted at CSE?

@roseMN Yes, it does.

roseMN, would you mind sharing your daughter’s stats (uwGPA, ACT)?

Here is the stats . Uwgpa - 3.4, act -32. Just some basic ECs.

I got deferred last night from CSE and Carlson School of Management. I have a 3.7 GPA UW, 1440 SAT, and 31 ACT. I have tons of AP’s and Honors Classes as well. I am heavily involved with extra circulars(speech and debate), most notably FIRST Robotics. Through robotics, I have received many awards for Women in STEM/computing. I have a great leadership profile in robotics as well. What would be my chances for getting a call back by March 31st?

roseMN and PamKrojse, my son is in a similar situation as you. He has a 3.35 uwgpa (with strong upward trend; all A’s 1st semester senior year in PSEO) and 32 ACT. He was admitted into CLA (even 'tho he did not apply to CLA), and waitlisted for CSE. From all my readings on CC and reddit, along with calls to UMN counselor, I still could not get a good sense of my son’s chances. It sounds like CSE admits students from the waitlist all the way through the summer (UMN counselor mentioned late March through early May as time frame for further review/decision). UMN admission says that there will only be further communications if he (my son) gets into CSE. So, no news is bad news.

Good luck to you all.

I prob didn’t get any but where do you see if you received scholarships?

Scholarships are all via snail mail. Right now, nothing’s moving in the Twin Cities as mail delivery was called off for at least a day due to cold.

What has better chances? Wait list or defer ?
