As the title says, no one from middlebury has contacted me for an interview. How much longer should I wait? I was expecting a call by now. Are interviews mandatory? (I get really nervous for interviews and don't like them, so I avoid them if I can).

Anyway, I'm just looking for advice on how to proceed. Call the office or e-mail them? Wait to contact them or contact midd immediately?

ps. is there a way to check the status of my application?

I would call them, though they do say the interview doesn't affect decisions.

I received my username and password via snailmail last week, telling me where I could check my app status. Again, you may want to call them about this. Just don't nag!

my interviewer contacted me only three days ago. she also told me that alumni interviewers have until mid-Feb to do the interviews so it may take a little time

you may want to call them, but if you want to avoid interviews, it may be best just to leave it alone and see what happens

Just sit tight if you don't like interviews. While you are doing that, maybe you can get a teacher or two or a friend's parent to do a mock interview with you. Ask them to ask really hard questions. For a lot of people, after experiencing the worst in a mock situation, the typical friendly college interview is a piece of cake.

Also, you might do a little research here and elsewhere on the web about college interviews, just to get an ida of the kinds of questions that might be asked. Thinking through answers to some of them might increase your confidence. Don't try to go into an interview with canned answers, of course. It's just that a little practice and planning can make the experience easier.

Haha, they called me for an interview and I said I didn't want one... that was dumb, but I have this phone-phobia thing and she totally caught me off guard and sounded kinda snobby... Hopefully what they say about interviews is true, although Middlebury isn't one of my top choices.

Maybe I opened up a spot for you! I hope so, if you really want to go there.

Honestly, interviews aren't that intimidating... I wouldn't worry about it. I was nervous going into mine, but my interviewer was really nice -- we ended up talking for over an hour and a half at Starbucks, and then she gave me a ride to my dad's office because it was on the way to her house. She asked what I do in my free time, why I want to go to Middlebury, and things like that, but otherwise it was just like a casual conversation.

yeah, im nervous too - i hope this doesn't mean that they're not interested!

but it says on their website that alumni interviews will be scheduled in January AND February. If they don't contact me in the next few days, i'm going to call. so we should be okay so long as we get one... soon. plus, it's not required. but i think it shows interest, and since midd is my top choice, i'll do everything i can.

of course, im too scared of calling people to actually call NOW. sheesh, im such an idiot. i have that irrational fear of the phone too, quark49.

Sometimes it helps to write out bullet points of what you want to say before an important call. Also have a glass of water nearby if your mouth tends to go dry.

When I was in high school, we all talked on the phone a lot and I think that made these sorts of calls much less intimiidating for us. The Internet is great, but it means you probably don't have as much experience using the telephone as we did. It gets easier with practice and experience.

just as an fyi:
the interview date has passed. i was still allowed to have one, which counts for something. but the interviewer didn't have like a folder or notepad or anything for evaluation. it was my understanding that she was just going to send an email with a brief outline of our talk and the fact that i met with her.

so yeah.

oops.

but... i never got her email in november. (it may have gotten lost around the time i was switching from ED1 to RD) so, that failed. oh well.
