That’s the vibe I’m getting from this thread, but then maybe it would be good for me because being around less competitive people would force me to tone it down.

Well, cs, I do respect your willingness to look at yourself objectively. Please note that this thread is more than three years old. The Harvard champion Byerly is long gone from CC. His chief mission while here was to document the alleged inferiority of Yale and the alleged superiority of his alma mater. He was not above using hyperbole, innuendo, and outright falsehoods to accomplish his goal.

Threads like this make me glad that I decided to apply ED to Brown :)

Although if pitted between Harvard and Yale, I think I would probably choose Yale. At that level of prestige, having gone to one over the other will literally never ever make any difference in your life. They have almost identical grad school placement, average starting salaries, research opportunities etc. With that in mind, literally the ONLY thing that should sway you one way or the other is the environment that you will spend the next couple of years in. I like Yale better because I love the residential house system, don’t like the idea of a core curriculum, and like the school spirit. I chose Brown over Yale because I liked it better. When you are dealing with the very best schools in the country, prestige should really take a back seat and preference should be the deciding factor.

Jackpot - sounds like Yale might lose a really mature, wise young person to Brown. I was recently in Providence and I just loved it. DD is very happy at Yale, I do think it was the best choice for her. Even the IM’s between the residential colleges provide an opportunity to dust off her athletic skills.

I agree so much, you are splitting hairs when you compare schools. As I have said many times, anyone who was offered a spot at any of the schools schools is fortunate, indeed.

DD’s top two choices were yale and brown and she got in to both. She’s currently a freshman at yale and loving it - no regrets. Personally, I think she would have been happy either place. More and more you see these two schools grouped together as kinda the “down to earth ivies”.

nice thread. too narrowminded and biased so OP almost convinced me but people solved it out. it’s like choosing bigmac vs whoppers. lol

how come its all the moms that are advocating yale and actual harvard grads siding with harvard. yallies’ moms have lots of free time!

^ harvard grads must have a lot of free time too i suppose…

Really? That’s the opposite of how I view it. Both seem to be filled with rich kids who have too much fun. They sure ain’t down to earth. I’d like to see the % of students from poor neighborhoods with high crime rate for all ivies.
I’d say out of the ivies, people at Cornell and Columbia seem the most mature and least elitist.

Yale, however, will always be seen as second to Harvard. Whenever the absolute perfection of education is ever noted, Harvard is mentioned in popular culture, not Yale.

that’s true. but popular culture also encourages trends that lead to obesity and stupidity. ^^
the quality of education at both these schools is awesome. those who were fortunate to get accepted to both should stop dithering around on this thread and go visit.

This thread makes me nostalgic for the good old days of Byerly, f.scottie, posterx and crimsonbulldog. It was much more lively around here when the four of them used to do battle. And guitarman - would love to hear how you’re doing if you ever still frequent this place - I’m assuming you’re now a Yale senior.

LOL, I read through the entire battle that was the Byerly/f.scottie/posterx/crimsonbulldog thread. they were kind of vicious XP

honestly, harvard will always be number one in people’s minds. That doesn’t mean yale is worse and yalies shouldn’t feel pressured to be number one.
i like yale as a college, not because of it’s prestige and not because i think it ousts harvard

and this is coming from a SCEA acceptee who will be attending Yale

brilliant post just makes me sad that I probably wont be able to go to yale

I also ended up choosing Yale over Harvard. I visited both Universities before making my decision, and I really did not like the feel Harvard gave off. I remember my tour guide at Harvard almost seemed condescending.

OMG. What a great bump!

The OP was incredibly insightful :D

I also picked it over Harvard

Here’s why: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1062265983-post6.html

From what I hear, both schools have a lot going for them, both undergrad and grad level??

Ok, no more bickering and back to work! ;)

First page was incredibly informative and enlightening, (despite it being so long ago), love your post!
