Umm definitely why you write. It shows passion and the admissions officer won't feel awkward, but that's just my opinion.

Well I'd be interested to read the one about why you're gay... I think that's a weird way of phrasing it. Talking about your experience being gay (not like, sexual hahaha like with your family and friends and stuff) would be interesting, but it definitely depends on the college.

Maybe you write because you're gay, or perhaps you're gay because you write.

hmm...

I agree with munchkincakes. I think an essay about your experience being gay would be better than one about why you write. However, an essay about why you're gay sounds strange.

Either way, if you want to trade feedback, go ahead and PM me an essay!

hehe, would you guys care to read my essays and see how? :s

Sure I'll read it... did you choose gay or write? haha

im more inclined to go for why i write. gay's bit schmaltzfest

anyone else sending a im gay so pity me essay?

Admissions people are looking at your academic capacity and your potential intellectual contributions, not your social life. Why you write would be much more interesting and important to them than who your love interest might be. Your sexual orientation could be a positive or a negative, depending on who might be reading your application; your intellectual orientation will always be a plus.
