Why is brown so underrated?

ppl say its for political reasons… i mean brown is a great school, esp for ppl going into medicine… with the 8 year program and the combined dual degree program… why do most ppl seem to put brown in oblivion?

i've never gotten the impression that brown is underrated.. at all.

the 8 year program has a 2% acceptance rate, honestly the hardest thing in the country to get into!

2% acceptance is just like all the competitive combined degree medical programs in my opinion

1,000+ applicants, and then about 20 or so selected in end

yeah, that's why people who only apply to combined degree med school programs apply to a lot more schools than most of us do. NU's HPME is deadly competetive, if you don't have perfect scores, you're gone, in the wink of an eye, It's one of the most unsure things you could apply to

I never thought of Brown as underrated. It maybe not as famous with the other ivies according to certain discussions, but otherwise in reality its kickass.

8 year program has a 2% admit rate? are you serious? a frd of mine got waitlisted.. that must be quite an achievement...

Not Brown, Brown, Brown. The Harvard educated writers of The Simpsons love to poke fun at Brown.

I think it's actually less--a fraction of a percent. thousands apply for 60 seats

Yea, I can't even imagine applying to an ivy, and then on top of that challenge, having to be perfect, in everything if you want even some sort of a chance

Beyond the eight year brown in underrated for a couple reasons. 1) being ranked in the teens by USNEWS doesn't help reputation. Its rank is low largely because of the endowment, which leads to it having a lower rank in a couple key metrics. 2) It is undergrad focused without a strong grad school, which makes the people who focus too much on grad school see this as a weakness rather than a strength. Dartmouth has to struggle with this as well.

In the end though its an awesome school and experience.

Brown is underrated, but you can't help but feel pity for Cornell, which is a monstrous school that keeps getting put down here and in the US News.

i don't "feel pity" for any ivy league school. they get all the fame and glory just for being in a sports league

the PLME program at brown last year had 1400 applicants, ~100 accepted, and then around another 100 accepted to Brown, but not to the PLME. So the acceptance rate is more like 7%. Plus if u apply PLME, and they dont think ur right for med school, they might still accept you to Brown College.

Brown's not underrated but at CC it seems to be getting the least posts.

I agree, Cornell, Brown and Dartmouth are very underrated due to that evil ranking system

I take comfort in the fact that Brown gets fewer posts than a lot of schools here, because I interpret it to mean that not (as) many CCers are applying.

not applying early you mean? I'm applying RD

Well, no, just in general. On the old forum, Brown had the second fewest posts of the Ivies, and many of the top 25 schools had more. Chances posts were not as frequent either. Therefore, either the CCers applying to Brown don't feel the need to post chances threads because they are confident in their abilities, or there is not as much interest in the school as a lot of others.

Call it wishful thinking?

lol yea but I think there's some truth to it. Although at my school, Brown is very popular.
