i find it funny how everyone picks economics thinking they are going to work on wall street. it is not that easy and you need connections. I feel bad for all of the people that dont even like the subject and major in it with the hopes being rich.

First of all the job is extremely difficult bc of the long hours and not many people are cut out for it.

I personally think people should make sure they actually like the subject and can see themselves with no social life and working in a hectic environment with a work force that is so competitive for job opportunities and are most known for brownnosing.

Just putting this out there!

many people are not cut out for it*

and its more about who you know than what you know.
just going to a good school isnt gonna promise you anything unless its wharton

people are stupid and think that econ is the same as business. and they even go as far as to say that business is the “joke major.” they only say this because they realize that they’re not smart enough to attend wharton, haas, stern, or mcintire etc.

and so they choose econ, thinking that it’s the same (or even better) than business. They think they’re smarter b/c econ requires more math. post 777 btw, lucky u

Yeah I feel you…I think a lot of people still have the mentality of the 80s/90s, when business was the industry to go into if you wanted to make money…but this recession has changed a lot, and firms are not going to be expanding quite like they used to. The funny thing is I stayed away from Econ until I was forced to take it as a GE – and ended up loving it. I actually enjoy the theoretical part of it because its a mix of math and social studies. Im combining it with my major.

how do we fix our economy, we shift the aggregate supply… there, i did it on the curve, where is my nobel prize?

Am I cut out for it?

^ as an econ major, it is not as simple as shifting the aggregate supply to fix the economy. Those who only think that have only taken principles and have no idea what you are talking about.
I am not suggesting Economics is the better major for getting into wall street but they definitely go hand in hand. Econ is more analytical and theory, which gives a great understanding of how firms and this country tries to operate. Business major you develop the skills to crunch the numbers and see how the markets affect this firms due to the confidence in the economy.

I am not considering a career on wall street because I would rather work 40hr/week then have no life until i retire.

i know, it was a joke… I have only taken principles and I would never want to be an econ major
