Why is it bad to start studying early?

I was googling and searching through this site and pretty much every post I saw said start studying the earliest the summer before junior year for the SAT/ACT. Why is that?

I wasn't planning on 100% dedicating myself to the SAT, just look over some vocab words every weekend and do some practice problems whenever I have the time, no rigid schedule.

I also been reading through a lot of people who have been disappointed with there scores because they haven't studied which makes me think even more I should start studying sooner rather than later.

I mean, if you study longer, logics says that you will do better, so why would I wait another 8 months when I am going to be working 2 jobs/busy during the summer and Junior year when I'm taking 6 aps instead of now where my schedule is easy-ish and I have time.

where in the world did you hear that nonsense?
(you should absolutely study as early as you can)

I just googled and found threads and the general consensus (some threads on here, others on other sites) was you will “burn out” if you start studying to early, which is why I found it weird and decided to post this.

It isn’t. Just don’t rush (burn out) all the practice material you have too quickly. You’ll run out and won’t have anymore for the weeks before the test. If you want to study early, you’ll have to study consistently, since studying 12 hours on one day once a week will barely help you retain any long-term knowledge.

yeah, don’t burn yourself and your material out, but theres no harm in preparing early. do the obvious stuff, like reading books, writing essays once in a while and keeping your algebra fresh, now. be sure to read books a long time before the sat, thats what hurt me the most.

It means you have no life. Go out and do a sport or something.

Also a waste of test material as there’s only so much. Look over it, so you can get an idea of what you need to know and move on.

For your information I ran a 4:33 mile as a freshman and am going to nationals in winter track for the Distance Medley Relay (3/4 from last year return, I am the only other one who can one the 1200m by a longshot).

So yeah, how good are you at your sports?

^ Well, you showed him.

I ran the mile in 4:32.99 as a freshman, what now?

What’s your name, I’ll PM you my name and you can look up all my times on flotrack/milesplit to verify them…

I’m waiting…

Treat your SAT studying the same way you treat your running.

I don’t mean to be at all offensive, but now I’m curious. Can you PM me your name PEQXC2012? Getting a 4:33 mile freshman year is extremely amazing.

PM sent…

wow… you ares are all Cross country kids.

Anyways, do not listen to “burning out.”

I started studying for SAT during 6th grade summer. I plateau’ed a little at 2100 during freshmen year. Then i dug in and studied for the WHOLE summer and my score skyrocketed.

On the real test, i got a 2370: 770 CR 800 M 800 W 11 Essay
