Why is Penn's tuition so expensive?

I mean I know everyone's tuition is going up but compared to most of the other Ivies, Penn is just ridiculous. Estimated cost is 57,000 dollars+, with tuition with nothing else being around 41,000.

My sister goes to Yale and her estimated cost 51,000, her student fees are only $150, compared to Penn where the cost of the gym and computer lab is like $1000. Her actual tuition is 37,000. Princeton is similar. Even Columbia (which is in NYC!!!) has an estimated cost of only 51,000 or so. No other Ivy is that close to being $60,000 and no offense, as much as I love Penn, I think that's ********.

I got 10,000 from my Dad's work, so I didn't get financial aid from Penn, and even then, it's 47,000 left to cover. I have to wonder whether the money is being used efficiently. Penn is a bigger school than Yale with more students to collect tuition from. I'm just curious if anyone knows why tuition costs so much more at Penn than at comparable schools?

They’re almost the same cost…?

Demand > Supply.

I haven’t read it, but being published by Oxford University Press means it is probably pretty legit: [Amazon.com: Why Does College Cost So Much? (9780199744503): Robert B. Archibald, David H. Feldman: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Why-Does-College-Cost-Much/dp/0199744505)

Yeah, daretorun, I think your numbers are a bit off. The costs of the Ivies and their non-Ivy peers all usually run very close to each other (as the 2 links posted by IceCreamIsYummy demonstrate for Penn and Yale).

Ah the raises must’ve been what changed it, it’s still a 2000 difference though. But regardless even looking at Princeton and Columbia’s tuition, it’s still cheaper. I mean I’ll obviously pay for it, but it just seems that this annual tuition hike is getting out of hand. :/

^ Check this out–the tuition increase for next year is the second lowest in 43 years:

I was including basically all the base fees like the “General Fee” that you have pay anyway so they might as well make it a part of tuition, kind of thing.
